Thanks Sheriff Dupnik. Thanks state-run media

I imagine people thinking about their actual words is almost akin to state censorship.

In a similar way i always find the flame wars on our own dear board provide, not just an informative and lively discussion, but a cathartic outlet which prevents me from shooting a politician in the face.
To parse ever word you utter for fear some idiot will mis-characterize what you say, mis-understand what you mean, take what you say out of context, or just take what normal people recognize as a common euphemism, used by millions of people every minute of every day is just insane in itself.....insane.....get it?

Yes, one of the things i admire about the American political system is the calm and rational way things are discussed.

I think we need more of this.

It is ironic that we find out that Sarah Palin had nothing to do with the lunatic, but this is directly responsible for what is happening to her. However, it doesn't change that we shouldn't start into a trail where we silence opposition in order to make "safer" rhetoric. I wholly disagree that we should start censoring ourselves. Sheriff Doofus deserves his right to air his wholly incorrect opinion, however wrongheaded it is.

Actually Sheriff Doofus may be in some hot water for his poorly shared opinion.

Do I detect a tiny bit of sarcasm there, mate?

Our political debates are far from calm....but I thing they are somewhat rational in the long run....our debates are heated and passionate....

Please,... take a minute and view the video in my sig.....you'll see how politics is not supposed to be.
then get back to us.:)

Ya know what funny?

That Palin makes a comment like: “Journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence they purport to condemn,”.

But...but...but...she's claimed that comments by others and outlandish rhetoric can't be to blame for anothers actions...yet in that very quote she cautions journalists that their comments might incite the very violence she claims isn't caused by overheated rhetoric.

Yea, especially the outlandish comments from this goof...she talks like someone with a hole in her head.

“Sarah Palin has the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district and when people do that, they’ve gotta realize there are consequences to that action.”
Rep. Gabrielle Giffords

Do you live in Sheriff Clarence Dupnik's county or do you have really good eyesight and hearing? The guy has 50 years in law enforcement and because he makes some observations that you don't want to believe, he is now Sheriff Doofus...How Dixie-like.

Sheriff Clarence Dupnik could not provide much information because, he said, the investigation was just in its early stages. He wouldn't even confirm the suspect's name.

However, the 74-year-old career law enforcement officer did adamantly volunteer at least twice that overheated rhetoric and political sentiments in his state and across the country were responsible. His nationally-televised comments helped ignite a furious debate about the tone of political discourse, although there is as yet no evidence they bear on Saturday's rampage.

Tonight, the sheriff told CBS News: "If you are in law enforcement and you are not a right-winger, you will get all kinds of heat from the right-wing nuts."

Katie Couric asked if the sheriff was actually politicizing the shooting rampage by inserting his unsolicited comments on rhetoric when, so far, the facts made public indicate the accused shooter was a lone deranged individual. Dupnik ducked a direct answer, saying:

"We'll never know the answer to that because there's no way to get into the heart and soul of a person to find out what their true motive is. And, second of all, we're dealing with a very troubled personality."

The lines in bold say it all....but obviously the Sheriff can't have it both ways....

So he has to be either a Doofus and a Pinhead...or more than likely, both.

LOL. No, he's Sheriff Doofus because he's a fool who is incapable of separating reactionary politics from an investigation and willing to put whatever motive he wants onto somebody before he knows any information.

50 years of law enforcement experience notwithstanding, that's Barney Fife kind of stupid. And believe me, that experience never equates to the perfection you seem to want to assign to him. He won an election, that doesn't make him smart or even the best choice for the job.

No Damo, fools are the ones who can't hold more than one thought at the same time or separate right from wrong. Whether the violence laced rhetoric and images were responsible in this case, it still doesn't justify their use or make them right. It still doesn't diminish that violent laced rhetoric and images coming from people in the national spotlight, people who are looked up to as leaders can create a climate where violence is seen as a option. The sheriff has eyes and ears. He was making a responsible observation. His job description includes crime prevention. He was making a very Sheriff Taylor like observation. One of wisdom. It's too bad none of you people on the right are as smart as Opie.

If you are critical of Sheriff Dupnik, then you must be equally critical of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

Is someone who's "willing to put whatever motive he wants onto somebody before he knows any information" the definition of "doofus"?

I know I am...neither hypocrite said a word when one of theres made this outright plea to someone to shoot a Republican running for Gov.

But then neither did the hypocrite Bfgrn....

of course there is no consequences for expressing a desire to shoot a Conservative if you're Democrat...
Only Conservatives are held to standards.

"That Scott down there that's running for governor of Florida," Mr. Kanjorski said. "Instead of running for governor of Florida, they ought to have him and shoot him. Put him against the wall and shoot him.

Right. Hence his foolishness in assuming motive before he had gathered information. What he "wanted" overcame any small amount of wisdom, and copious amounts of experience that tells him to investigate before assigning motive, he had. He decided that rather than remain silent and let people think he was a fool that he'd open his mouth and tell everybody all about it.

And no, Giffords never once has come out to assign political motive where there is none.

That he came out and assigned motives in his official capacity, when the facts were no where to be found, was more then unprofessional-it was grossly inflamatory and may hinder prosecution of Loughner.

So you're claiming that the Sheriff's comments may result in Loughner being acquitted?
