Tunisia could in no way be self sufficient, they just don't have the resources that we have. While we could, and should, create an economy that relies on the US first, Tunisia absolutely needs to bring in goods from elsewhere. They just can't produce many of the things they need.

Protectionism is the solution. There is never a need import completely finished goods. Importing raw materials is one thing, but the value add of manufacture can always be done domestically, and should be, contrary to your "let china have all the jobs" globalist idiot zealotry.
