Boehner

I recall the press making a stink out of that, but I don't know if he was speaker at the time or a presidential candidate.

He jokingly quipped in a room full of reporters that they, the GOP, had shut government down because Clinton made him and Dole sit in the back of the plane on their way to Yitzak Rabin's funeral...it was light hearted, but the media ran with it...as if it were the reason.

I don't know the technical ins and outs of those rules but nontheless, I think he missed a chance to make a good point (and score points) with a lot of America. Of course this is based upon what I have heard here and only here...that he bailed on the Arizona memorial to attend a RNC fundraiser.

leaningright, we read a lot of stuff that partisans b*tch about but most people roll their eyes at. As I look around the various news sites today and don't really see anything about this story being reported on maybe it was just a bunch of partisans I was reading last night who were complaining about it. Maybe after doing what they did in Washington yesterday during the day last night was all about the President so there was no need for Boehner to be there.

I still question going to the fundraiser but that's just me.

Sorry, I didn't read it as a "democrat[ic] attack" especially since it came from Cawacko...who is no democrat.

Now to my point...maybe a little plainer this time. If he missed the service because he felt he needed to attend an RNC fundraiser instead then yes.....I consider that a strike against him. If he felt he had done enough and/or wanted to turn the stage over to Obama....while it was certainly his perrogative it was a poor political move IMO. Either way, I feel he missed an opportunity, but the second scenario definitely would make me feel better about him.

Boehner turn the stage over to Obama, ahahahahahaha, thanks for the chuckle!

This won't look good, especially since he went to a fund raiser, if he had gone to an orphans home or a military hospital, but a fundraiser, that looks REAL bad.

That is so true cawacko. I absolutely don't question his not going. If he didn't go so he could attend a fundraiser he deserves a strike. That is just the way I feel if that was his reasoning. As I indicated, the jury is still out on that one. I haven't seen anything yet about it that isn't from some lefty site....which I won't take as gospel. That is just the type of "gotcha" moments that I have come to despise from both sides. Take this molehill and make a mountain. I see the Sarah Palin thing as exactly the same thing. I see the birth certificate as exactly the same thing. This type of stuff needs to stop. So if all I have is some lefty site "reporting" the fundrasier as the reason he didn't go he definitely gets the benefit of the doubt from me. But I am really too easily duped or too dumb to comment on this. :)

You really don't think He and Obama could/would work together at a time like this. If it is true that they can't/won't, especially now, then our country is really in trouble.

CNN: Boehner: Bipartisan prayer service can be 'source of solace'
Congress has responded to the Saturday shootings of 19 people, including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, with a "collective embrace" rather than a "torrent of accusations," House Speaker John Boehner said at a bipartisan congressional prayer service Wednesday. "Our nation mourns for the victims. It yearns for peace. And it thirsts for answers," the Ohio representative said in his welcome statement at the service, according to a transcript of his remarks. The service, held for members of Congress, their spouses and some staffers, was not open to the public.

Yeah, he led a private non-dog and pony show earlier Wed.

Obama probably told Boener to stay home figuring the country didn't want to watch anymore of Boener's maudlin blubbering every time he tries to speak.

I could not find any rule against it and I am sure if there was a rule, the administration would not have asked him to fly. They are claiming it was because he wanted to be in DC with the rest of the House and could not be two places at once, and that is legit, but for gawd sakes, use your head, it doesn't look good that you then attend a fundraiser! These guys just blow my mind! Right or wrong, it looks BAD!

it appears he did turn down the air force 1 flight to the memorial, however, he did attend a prayer service in washington and

led a tribute to Giffords and the other victims on the floor of the House — where the speaker dissolved into tears during his speech.

he also attended an event later that night which appears to be a fundraising event.

while the move appears tone deaf and would have been a good PR move, going with obama (read working together) to the memorial service, i can't see how anyone can knock boehner for attending a prayer service in washington and leading a tribute to the giffords and the victims on the house floor. it is like saying that the only way to pay your proper respects is to go that one memorial. rubbish.

The fundraiser later that evening is what made him look bad. sorry it just does.

so its a bad thing if someone gets emotional at times and sheds a few tears? wow....i guess the left only wants men to tough unfeeling lug heads....i thought the left was the party of compassion and acceptance of people's feelings...

Key words, he over does it, make him look too soft, in my opinion. I love a sensitive man, but a cry baby, that is another thing all together! It seems contrived.
