Taking advantage of tragedy

take this as a friendly warning, speaker, people are really pissed and are starting to resort to violent measures to right our country again.

Here we have a Teabagger on this board - today - making this threat.

And some say there's no connection between rightwing rhetoric and what happened today?

There's plenty of blame to go around when it comes to talk about killing one's political foes. Such as:

Rush Limbaugh: "I tell people don’t kill all the liberals. Leave enough so we can have two on every campus -- living fossils -- so we will never forget what these people stood for."

Ann Coulter: "My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times Building."

Or: "We need to execute people like John Walker in order to physically intimidate liberals, by making them realize that they can be killed too."

Bill O’Reilly: “Everybody got it? Dissent, fine; undermining, you're a traitor. Got it? So, all those clowns over at the liberal radio network, we could incarcerate them immediately. Will you have that done, please? Send over the FBI and just put them in chains, because they, you know, they're undermining everything and they don't care, couldn't care less.”

Karl Rove: “Has there ever been a more revealing moment this year? Let me just put this in fairly simple terms: Al Jazeera now broadcasts the words of Senator Durbin to the Mideast, certainly putting our troops in greater danger. No more needs to be said about the motives of liberals.”

Kathleen Parker: “Here's a note I got recently from a friend and former Delta Force member, who has been observing American politics from the trenches: ‘These bastards like Clark and Kerry and that incipient ass, Dean, and Gephardt and Kucinich and that absolute mental midget Sharpton, race baiter, should all be lined up and shot.’ "

Sharron Angle...a statement she made during a radio interview last January in which she floated the idea that the public would bring down an out-of-control Congress with "Second Amendment remedies."

lmao....you claim you call out the left over violent rhetoric images YET all you do is bitch about the right

busted!

You know, you are right. This guy just listened to talk radio and watched Fox News. He is not responsible for what he did. He is just a poor victim of Palin's map. He thought she was ordering him to kill people. Those were obviously rifle scopes and that means she is secretly ordering her minions to kill people. Of course, why didn't I see that before? He was just following orders.

I guess we should prosecute Limbaugh, Hannity, Palin, and the rest for war crimes against the USA.

Not a single person has said that this guy is not responsable for anything but you!

Not a single person has said that this guy is not responsable for anyone but you!

And not a single person bringing up Palin's map, Limbaughs rants and the Tea Party have mentioned this guy being a murderer on his own.

You and several others have jumped right out, without knowing the facts, and blamed everyone BUT this murderer.

I am so disgusted by the politicizing of this tragedy it is hard for me to put it into words. We know little or nothing about the killer. But that has not stopped the hatred from spewing out.

Have you considered that your willingness to jump to conclusions, post nonsense, throw blame around without knowing the facts actually contributes to the hostile political environment we now have??

Everyone who is so quick to throw out all this blame and hate, without knowing the facts, is a party to the hostility that is rampant in our politics. So if you want to blame Palin and Limbaugh, you need to share a small portion of the blame yourself.

Not a single person has said that this guy is not responsable for anything but you!

No what you all implied is that Sarah Palin's voters map must have somehow been connected...

That is dishonest faux intellectualism~

I would never ever publish documents with crosshairs marking people as targets, never.

“Sarah Palin has the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district and when people do that, they’ve gotta realize there are consequences to that action.”
Rep. Gabrielle Gifford

We get it. Jesus. Do you really think that your post is so evocative that it should be repeated time after time after time.

The fact that nobody responded to it doesn't mean that nobody saw it. It means that its not the mega board stopper that you think it is.

You stated "How many of those blaming Palin ever joined in the "When will someone assasinate Bush?" rhetoric?

That sort of talk was rampant during George W's time in the White House. But it seems to be conveniently forgotten now."

My response addresses the fact that the same kind of talk has been going on for many years, as much about liberals, Obama, the Clintons, etc. as about bush. It's disgusting fallout from the divisiveness in this country. Also, I and other liberals have been on the receiving end of that rhetoric, especially during the Iraq war when conservatives said we should be shot for treason for protesting. I didn't like the tactic then and I don't like it now.

But speaking of Palin, in March, she posted this ad on her facebook page and tweeted, “Commonsense Conservatives & lovers of America: “Don’t Retreat, Instead – RELOAD!” Pls see my Facebook page.” Nobody should use this kind of imagery about a freaking political campaign. Words have consequences.

Maybe it's just a coincidence that the shooting happened to one of the pols targeted on her page but it's that kind of coincidence that makes people think, rightly or wrongly, that there could be cause and effect.

You can be as sarcastic as you want to me but it's not going to change my mind that gun rhetoric and violent imagery has no place in the political process.

Neither side is blameless, is it?

..."Within minutes of the first reports Saturday that Representative Gabrielle Giffords, an Arizona Democrat, and a score of people with her had been shot in Tucson, pages began disappearing from the Web.

One was Sarah Palin’s infamous “cross hairs” map from last year, which showed a series of contested Congressional districts, including Ms. Giffords’s, with gun targets trained on them.

Another was from Daily Kos, the liberal blog, where one of the congresswoman’s apparently liberal constituents declared her “dead to me” after Ms. Giffords voted against Nancy Pelosi in House leadership elections last week..."

I have no problem answering this. But I will do it by asking another question. How many liberals attending protests are pro-gun?

Probably more that I could imagine.

However, it wasn't liberals showing up at political rallies carrying signs about "the tree of Liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."

Do you understand the difference between making an independent comment vs. responding to another's comment?

of course....

you had ample opportunity to call out both sides, but you didn't, you solely spent your energy bashing the right....you haven't once called out anyone on the board today over their anti tea party palin rhetoric

i really think you don't care about hate speech when it comes from the left, you only care when it comes from the right

The sad part is that everyone thinks their side is fine and its the opposition that is inciting violence.

The hatred is rampant from BOTH sides. We have abandoned all sense of decency in our politics.

Cite my "bashing the right". I bashed the use of violent imagery, but if you want to put that in the "right" camp, be my guest. And in spite of what congenital liar ID says, I did NOT approve of pictures suggesting violence toward bush, and I double dog dare anybody to link up to my supposed approval.

Yes, there is hatred on both sides, but there is hardly an equivalence of violent rhetoric on the left and right. You've got to be kidding me with this nonsense.
