Should Cigarette company executives be executed?

These people have systematically lied to the public over and over and over again about the health affects of cigerettes. Not only that they have manipulated the product to make them even more addictive knowing it would assure even more people would die.

A quarter of a million Americans die each year and have for many decades because of these purveyors of death and the worlds deadliest drug. When will we rise to take action against these abominably evil people? When will we bring an end to all the pain, suffering and death caused by these heartless and degenerate bastards. How much more suffering will we tolerate?

Yesterday I lost another close family member to those evil bastards. A good man who was my idol and hero. A man who dedicated his life to serving his nation and his community only to have it cut short because he couldn't kick the addiction to their deadly product. My grief has no limits and my anger has no bounds.

These people have got to go!

Rest in peace RLH!

The state & federal government depends on smokers to finance all sort of social health programs. In California, all those poor minority kids would not have daycare, without smokers. Besides the government already settled withe tobacco companies, its called the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement.

are you assuming they have been found guilty and after their guilt, the death sentence is imposed?

Which probably has more to do with you running, tucking tail, and registering Libertarian than anything.

To think they had you by the short hairs all those years over something as silly as an addiction to cancer sticks. That's like being addicted to running on the freeway during commute hours. Sooner or later it's gonna "get'cha".

What will happen with your addiction to pink frilly g-strings? Surely you'll blame that on the Liberals, eh?
Uhhh that one went over my head USL....but as far a the frilly g-strings are concerned....it depends on who they are attached too. :-)

Seriously, have you read any of the studies about nicotene, how potent the addiction to it is, how toxic it is, how tobacco companies manipulate it to make it even more addictive. I mean seriously, these people kill with fore thought and malice. They have killed more people then Hitler and you can't park the blame for that on the people they got hooked.

Wait till you lose someone, like I just did, because of those bastards then tell me what you think of them.

first and most importantly, I am sorry for your loss.

As to your question.... no, they should not be executed.

Anyone who has smoked/chewed tobacco in the past 20 years has known the risks involved.

Is quitting tough... hell yes.

Is it tougher for some than others... hell yes.

But we all know it is bad for us.

Should we require the black lungs as the FDA is now suggesting be posted on every pack.... I think so.

Should we do what we can to discourage the use of tobacco... absolutely.

But we also must take personal responsibility for our actions.

If you can't quit on your own, get someone to help you.

I frankly cannot get too agitated about tobacco products, including cigarettes, the dangers have been known for at least 40 years. I speak as an ex-smoker.

soda and fast food do just as much harm to the health of our nation ( if not more) as tobacco. Should they all go to?
A good point and a good question. Though I don't think they are as deadly as cigarettes, there's no argument about their deleterious health affects. Can fast/junk food be regulated to mitigate the harm the cause? If not, then we may have to consider regulating them too. Can cigarettes be managed to make them less deadly and addictive? Probably not. I think that it would be fair to say that cigarettes/nicotene are far more toxic and addictive then fast/junk food and deserve more public concern but you do make a valid point.

and thank you for your condolences. Much appreciated.

Some people can quit. I did and I had it bad. Over two packs a day when I quit. Some people, like my Uncle, tried everything. Cold turkey, patches, gums, nicotene replacement devices, hypnosis, perscription drugs and none of it worked for him. I know other people, who like him, have tried about everything under the sun to quit and just can't kick it.

Why can some people kick the addiction and others can't? I don't know but I do know this, it's not a failure of character on their part and that's what bothers me a lot about some of the comments of "Well everyone knows cigarettes are bad for you.". Well no kidding but for a lot of people who get hooked, they play hell trying to quit. Some do, others can't and they die due to that but it's not due to some flaw in their character. It's because they became addicted to a deadly drug and were unable to become "unaddicted."

The fact that many who become addicted can't quit is a pathetic excuse for not holding tobacco companies accountable for the millions of people they have systematically killed.

The difference is that cigarette companies lead a huge campaign to try and claim that cigarettes were harmless. No one has been claiming that soda and alcohol is harmless, or sending millions of dollars to bogus labs that claim the same.

really.....have you seen alcohol commercials or do you live under your nightie pillow

Tobacco companies make a harmful product, but everyone knows it is harmful, everyone is aware of the risks. Let people be grown-ups and take responsibility for their own health for Christ's sake. It's a no-brainer that inhaling smoke into your lungs isn't a positive thing (and that applies to marijuana as well as tobacco cigarettes).

I'm sorry, but people who smoke until it kills them have only themselves to blame. I have several family members who have died of lung cancer and it was their own fault (which they were smart enough to recognize). Choices have consequences and we'll be much better off as a society once people start taking responsibility for their own lives instead of always playing the victim.

I corrected the spelling in the title for you, Mott. Remember, suffixes, "ette" means "small", it isn't a small "ciger" it's a small cigar....

(I really should make a "spelling nazi" troll. It's just fun.)

I am not sure where you would draw the line? Should alcohol, fast foods, car and weapons manufacturers be also held accountable? What about cannabis, if that was made legal would they also have to pay large sums in compensation?

Having said that, rather than extracting large sums from the tobacco companies much of which just goes to avaricious ambulance chasers. I would be more in favour of a levy being placed on nicotine products which would go specifically to fund medical costs for smoking related diseases.

The cigarette companies were found liable in the 90's because they specifically engaged in unethical conduct that other industries were not guilty of. They were not sued because of the dangerousness of their product. Anyone who uses this line of argument is just ignorant.
