My fund raising for consrvatives is not important

C. Fund Raising. A judge may assist nonprofit law-related, civic, charitable, educational, religious, or social organizations in planning fund-raising activities and may be listed as an officer, director, or trustee. A judge may solicit funds for such an organization from judges over whom the judge does not exercise supervisory or appellate authority and from members of the judge’s family. Otherwise, a judge should not personally participate in fund-raising activities, solicit funds for any organization, or use or permit the use of the prestige of judicial office for that purpose. A judge should not personally participate in membership solicitation if the solicitation might reasonably be perceived as coercive or is essentially a fund-raising mechanism.

Cannon 5-a justice should not "solicit funds for, pay an assessment to, or make a contribution to a political organization or candidate, or attend or purchase a ticket for a dinner or other event sponsored by a political organization or candidate."

The Fund reaiser in question was NOT for a candidate or political org., but for the magazine "American Spectator". The American Spectator is a conservative U.S. monthly magazine covering news and politics, edited by R. Emmett Tyrrell Jr. and published by the non-profit American Spectator Foundation

I've highlighted the actual relevant language for you since you seem to be confused.

nice cherry pick mr. confused....perhaps you failed to note the word "otherwise"....here the sentence preceding your arbitrary highlight:

A judge may solicit funds for such an organization from judges over whom the judge does not exercise supervisory or appellate authority and from members of the judge’s family.

was he there dressed in his robes? did he solicit funds? and wasn't this for a magazine and not a political candidate or organization?
What does that have to do with it? He is recognizable naked! Are you excusing this behavior? Isn't it worse than what Olbermann did? Should we start ignoring all our rules and let our law makers do the same?

Is Justice Alito, in participating in the American Spectator's annual fund-raising gala, soliciting funds for a law-related organization from judges over he judge does not exercise supervisory or appellate authority or from members of his family? Certainly not. Hence, the clause that I highlighted is the applicable language and sure as shit ain't arbitrary.

I will note that his mere attendance at a fundraiser for the American Spectator is fine (provided it is not a "political organization" as defined in the Canon), but being a keynote speaker as he was in 2008 is certainly a violation of the Canon.

Are these first two sentences independent of each other or are they combined?

There have been other violations and no one seems to care and this, my fellow Americans is how our troubles always begin!

How is this in any way related to what Olbermann did? A supreme court judge and a TV commentator are two completely different animals.

You're basically asking what "such an organization" refers to in the second sentence. Obviously, it is referring to "non-profit law-related, civic, charitable, educational, religious or social organizations."

if all he did was attend, did he do anything wrong? and for the record, I don't think Olbermann should have been suspended.

Should we start ignoring all our rules and let our law makers do the same?
our lawmakers ignore the laws now as it is, so why shouldn't we?

Eh, another example of why I'm not a lawyer. I can't comphrend or read the English language.

it is arbitrary...canon 4

A judge may engage in extrajudicial activities, including law-related pursuits and civic, charitable, educational, religious, social, financial, fiduciary, and governmental activities, and may speak, write, lecture, and teach on both law-related and nonlegal subjects

And the usual suspects rise to knee-jerk defend a Republican.

This is a fun daily routine...

this is why you're a hack...

if you can't actually debate the issue, you can stfu

i mean really, how dare we use the canon to defend the claim that what he was doing violates ethics rules...

moron
