i give up

i have waged a private war against profanity with no results

i have been accused of hating the right and libertarians

i do not hate either, i do disagree with most of their agendas though

i am a social progressive and a fiscal conservative with occasional agreements with the right regarding personal freedoms, including guns

both the left and right seem to be moving further from center

where is the moderation - i feel sometimes that this board is more a refuge for the sanity challenged than a place for actual debate

maybe it is me, all i know is that i no longer find the board a fun place

Is that a contradictory position? You can support freedom of speech, and still be a strong advocate for positive discourse...

Being serious for a moment, and this won't last long so suck it up watching fools, you seem like a nice chap and i wouldn't want to see you disappear, but people just swear, curse and use profanity as a matter of course nowadays.

I'm as guilty of it as the next man, although i do try on occasions to keep a civil tongue. If people feel strongly about things then a 'f' here of a 's' there is just part of their normal speech pattern.

Although i'm not normally a sweary sort i do, on occasion, drop a sweary subtext into the conversation for added emphasis or at a place where one wouldn't normally expect to find one as this can be a convenient aid to a humorous punchline.

Anyway, to put this in short punchy terms, without swearing, i'd ask you not to disappear from our gaze and just try to ignore the more sweary section in our midst.

I don't normally write stuff like that in one go so feel yourself lucky you cheeky b****r. ;)

as usual you have no clue what you are talkign about....he is advocating against swear words, regardless of their effect on discourse

if someone wants to say damn or fuck, whats it to him? thus, it is a contradictory position....

You're so dumb. He thinks they have a negative effect on discourse, so he is advocating against them.

To my knowledge, he is not saying we should BAN them. That would be the contradictory position.

If he has genuinely asked to ban them, then it would be a contradictory position. I haven't seen that.

I'm hardly surprised that you can't discern the difference, though.

And therein lies the problem....as a whole, every progressive must be in a constant state of conflict with society.....they will find an enemy anywhere...they need an enemy to change, an issue to control, its just them.

Your private war is with our profanity...the next progressives war is with all conservatives, the next is with perceived racial injustice, the next is social injustice, the next is tax injustice....they always have someone or something that must be turned or bent or steered in their perceived direction of what is correct (OR just)...the rest of society must conform to their value system....they just can't live and let live....they must intrude in everyone life for the good of the community....and yet at the very same time they will tell us the celebrate diversity..how contradictory...

DQ, my mama taught me quitters never win. Of course I apply that logic only to alcohol but one could apply it to this board as well.

I understand Donnie, sometimes people need to move on. I'm sorry that profanity makes you uncomfortable. I'm affraid there are many like me in the world who feel a certain comfort in words that "are not allowed in certain company". I have to admitt when I am painting my canvas I just feel most comfortable dabbing my brush in the blacks and reds. I just cant seem to convey what is really swirling arround in my head and gut without finding my pallete knife edged with the colors of the true spectrum which includes the dark ones.

Fair well my friend and find a world where the soft colors of light and the comforting canvas' all show warm pale oranges, greens and even gentle pinks.

The world sometimes just has to much crack and care and we need to take shelter.

You deserve a little soft light and gentle pinks.

They were torn for you far too early.

Enjoy my friend and come back when you feel you can once again brave my messy canvas.

Fuck the moderation. Moderation is for pussies. Everything the "parties" agree on is just where brainwash overlaps.
