Letter To A Whiny Young Democrat

That's what the republican tried to do here. I don't know how many signs that read, "A vote for Boren is a vote for Pelosi" I saw but I could probably fuel my wood stove for a while with them if I were to gather them up. We country folk weren't falling for it though. ;)
I have to tell a story now, a co-worker of my daughter, before he met us, asked her, "how can you be so sophisticated when both your parents are from Kansas!" He met us when we were down there and told her, I guess moving to Alaska was good for them! He is originally from Dallas and considers himself highly urban!

Yep, Rana, there does exist a stereotype of those of us who live in the middle of the nation...or even in rural areas. I will also contend that there is also a stereotype of those who live in urban areas, especially large urban areas, by those who live in the middle or rural areas. I don't think either are right or healthy.

than the gray n' meaty grind of actual governing.

sigh.

I don't really think they know how things work in congress. Voting for the speaker your party has chosen isn't voluntary. If Gene Taylor voted against Pelosi, he doesn't get his committee assignment. It might be a big deal if he was the deciding vote, but if it really came down to him and other conservative Democrats being the deciding vote they could easily negotiate their speaker of choice anyway.

I don't even know why this pisses me off so bad. Honestly I think I might prefer a Republican to Taylor on some issues. But Taylor had honesty and integrity, where this guy doesn't do anything but read from a script.

Okay.

Conservatives are always whining about poor people and their reliance on government handouts.
Yeah, those damn conservatives. You must hate this one the most:

I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.
