TENNESSEE

No fee, no fire protection

Firefighters let a mobile home burn to the ground because the owner didn't pay a $75 fire protection fee, authorities say.

Jeff Vowell, city manager of South Fulton, said Gene Cranick's double-wide trailer near the Kentucky border was allowed to burn last week because he didn't pay. Cranick's son, Timothy, angrily went to the firehouse and punched the chief. He was charged with aggravated assault.



And just as a kicker:

EPA opposed on controls

The Environmental Protection Agency has run into bipartisan opposition from senators over its plans to cut mercury and other toxic emissions from factory boilers and from heating plants at shopping malls and universities.

The dust-up over a seemingly routine environmental rule shows how political worries about the economy and pressure from industries are leading Congress to try to restrain the EPA.

What we have here folks, is a classic display of the intelligence level of birthers/teabaggers/neocon parrots/PNAC acolytes........when faced with the reality of the policies of their political leaders agenda, they go into denial mode or act like a bunch of frustrated grade schoolers who don't like being proven wrong in front of the class. It sounds to me like this was a very rural area in Tenneessee and there are a couple of other similar areas in the country where they pay a fee to receive services such as fire fighting. As far as that coming to an area near us soon I can't really say I've heard a politician say we need to privitize fire fighting.

You ever have a lengthy conversation with a Libertarian? Notice a couple of GOP politicians over the years squawking about privatization of various social programs?

I'm just giving out the evidence...and if these jokers get any real traction, what happened in Tennessee and a couple of other areas, as you say, would become a national policy.

I didn't make any "allegations", I merely posted the FACTS AS THEY WERE REPORTED.

I merely pointed out how Libertarian assholes consistently wail about NO gov't interference in their lives....ESPECIALLY in collecting taxes to help out other people or to enforce laws that protect the public health. Well, here are PRIME examples of how that ideology works out in reality.

STY and his ilk are a bunch of cowardly, selfish SOS. They've got theirs....fuck everyone else....but they (Libertarians) sure as hell don't have a problem benefitting from/an using the social services the very system they profess to hate provides.

The LP (Libertarian Party) no doubt. It's on their website about all the programs they would like to privatize.

Most Republicans tend to be the small l and I've heard quite a few of these types talk over the years and can't I've ever really heard any of them forcefully come out and say we need to privatize our fire departments. I'm sure people can find a few statements that random Republicans have made but as far as making it to the national platform and something most of the party runs on that's not something we are going to be seeing.
