Supreme Court Takes Phelps Case

How long have you advocated vigilante totalitarianism against free speech practicioners?

So, you believe you can say anything you want, wherever you want without consequences?

Do us a favor... head on out to Harlem or East St. Louis or downtown Detroit.... exercise your free speech by shouting the N word as loud and often as you can.

Let us know how that works out for you.

Also... you should look up the word totalitarian... it does not mean what you seem to think it means.

As for your vigilante comment... in my view, if someone is assaulted, I am going to step in and protect when I can. If the abuser wishes to cease and walk away, fine by me. If the abuser wishes to continue the abuse... then I will see if they have the courage to run that abuse through me first.

If someone is hiding behind freedom of speech to verbally abuse someone. I would respond in kind. If they escalate it beyond words.... their mistake.

For the most part, yes, without consequences meted out by a court of law.

But this is a case brought in a court of law. There is no way i would be convicted in a court of law for doing that.

Yes it does.

Free speech is not abuse.

WOw. you're such a vigilante badass. Maybe you can extinguish all free speech if you're man enough.

you wouldn't make it to a court of law you twit.

But this is a case brought in a court of law. There is no way i would be convicted in a court of law for doing that.

Again moron, I didn't say you would. You have the RIGHT to say it. You just have to remember that there are consequences for your actions/words.

Yes it does.

No it doesn't.... which is why you should look it up. No one is advocating a dictatorship moron.

Free speech is not abuse.

The concept of Free Speech is not abuse, but the speech most certainly can be abusive, as it was in this case.

LMAO... you are such a little emotard. No one is suggesting extinguishing free speech. Like I said, I would respond in kind. Meaning if they kept it at words, so would I. If they escalated it, so would I.

The phelps CASE is in a court of law. That's why it's called a case. It's a court case. Stop changing the subject. There is no legal recourse against phelps here, even if you do want to kick his ass.

I don't think you would have a legal right to vigilante action for abusive free speech, regardless of how high you feel on your own sense of righteousness.

You're suggesting extinguishing free speech you don't agree with. Why are you such a nazi?

so so so many proles. Thank god for the bill of rights. I shudder at the number of unwashed masses that would give up something so important just because they are offended.

As if free speech was only meant to protect popular opinions that everyone already agrees on...

I was just thinking this morning while watching the news how surprising it is that no one has murdered Phelps yet. Darla does make a good point about that.

if phelps stayed away from military funerals all the retard conservatives on this site would be giving him a pat on the back for teaching those queers a lesson on how they are going to hell.

If he were to let someone kill him God would probably have a hard time recruiting fresh pickets.

He might even have to send Jesus back down to do it, and nobody wants that do they?

This is a very useful post Grind. Keep up the good work. :clink:

I can understand laughing at Grind's humour, but if Phelps were really so popular, his church would have expanded beyond Westboro, KS, to places all over the country, and he would not have to be picking up all of those frequent flier miles to see that his good work is done...

everyone that has access to guns are mostly conservative and agree with him

I meant a family member though. A mother, father, brother, sister. An immediate relative in the middle of a terrible, grevious time and then this? I think it's an amazing testament to the self-restraint of the loved ones who are at these funerals.

His speech is indeed protected so long as he keeps it general and aimed toward the military etc. If he says that the soldier being buried did something and it is not true then the first amendment does not protect him and should not protect him. I lived next door to a Phelps for 3 years. I saw Fred and his church/family members everyday picketing somewhere. There was an incident in Wichita or Lawrence or some place in Kansas, where one of the Westboro picketers called an 11 or 12 year old girl a whore when she told them, from the front seat of her dads car, god loves everyone. Her dad heard them call her a whore and spun the car around, drove up on the sidewalk and attempted to run over the member than said it. Dad was charged, went to court, and the jury acquitted him. Since then, the members of the church are a little less mouthy at people driving by them. Gotta love the jury nullification process in america.
