I always try to remind people, we actually have very good pollsters who work with the White House, so I know when something is going to be unpopular.

But. you didn’t work so hard on my behalf simply to do what was popular.

You elected me to do what was right, and that’s what we’ve done.

So we have, over the last 20 months, laid the tracks, the foundation, for us to finally solve problems that had been plaguing us for decades, and to ensure that the 21st century is the American Century, just like the previous century was.

Now, all this was difficult because we had the other side saying no to every single thing we could propose.

We’ve gotten a lot of stuff done, but we’ve got a lot more work to do, and the other side wants to go back.

This is very explicit on their part.

They want to go back exactly to the agenda that got us into this mess in the first place.

I’m not making that up.

The chairman of their committee, when asked, well, what’s your plan, well, we’re going to go back to the exact same agenda that we had before Obama was elected.

Think about that.

This is the agenda that resulted in the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.

That’s their agenda, and if you need an illustration of it, look at the debate we’re having with respect to tax cuts right now.

They don’t have another idea.

I’m not exaggerating.

Think about it.

What are they standing for?

What’s their agenda?

They don’t have one, and so the stakes in this election could not be higher.

Their message is whatever it is that Obama was for, we’ll be against.

As Joe Biden put it, don’t compare us to the Almighty, compare us to the alternative.

That’s what’s at stake in this election.

So, over the next six weeks, but over the next two years, over the next six years, over the next decade, whatever it is, I want all of you to remind yourselves why you got involved and why you care deeply, and not lose heart.

But gird yourself for a battle that’s worth fighting.

Take pride in the fact that, yes, what we’re trying to do here is finally take responsibility and move this country in a better direction and change our politics, and that’s not going to be easy.

But it can be done, and for those of you who don’t think it can be done, I just will remind you that it was just a few years back where I was a state senator in Illinois named Barack Hussein Obama, and I stand now addressing you as the President of the United States.

Don’t tell me it can’t be done.

I’ve been using this analogy around the country.

The other side drove the economy into the ditch, and we’ve been down there and putting on our boots, and it’s muddy, and it’s hot, and there are bugs swarming, and we’ve been pushing and shoving and sweating, trying to get this car out of the ditch.

The Republicans have been standing there, sipping on a Slurpee, watching us and saying, you’re not pushing hard enough, or you’re not pushing the right way.

Finally, we get the car up on level ground, and it is kind of dinged up.

I mean, it wasn’t good for the car to be driven into the ditch, and it needs some body work, it needs a tune-up, it needs a carwash, but it’s moving.

Suddenly we get a tap on the shoulder, and the Republicans say, “We want the keys back.”

You can’t have the keys back.

You can’t drive.

That’s why we were in the ditch, and as soon as they get into power, they will throw that car right back in reverse.

There’s a reason why, when you want to go forward, you put it into “D,” and when you go backwards, it goes into “R.”

The Democrats took over Congress in Jan of 2007 .. at the time

we were in the midst of 52 straight weeks of Job Growth
GDP was between 3 and 4
Unemployment was less than 5%
Stock Market was over 12,000


Yep.. 4 years later we have really progressed ... I know...the Dems are still in the progress of draining out the swamp....

This week, the economists who officially decide when recessions start and end declared the recession of 2008 to be over.

But, if you’re one of the millions of Americans who lost your home, your job, or your savings as a consequence of the recession, this news is of little comfort or value.

Yes, the economy is growing instead of shrinking, as it was in 2008 and the beginning of 2009.

We’re gaining private sector jobs each month instead of losing 800,000, as we did the month I took office.

But we have to keep pushing to promote growth that will generate the jobs we need, and repair the terrible damage the recession has done.

That’s why I’ve proposed a series of additional steps.

Accelerated tax breaks for businesses who buy equipment now.

A permanent research and development tax break to promote innovation by American companies, and a new initiative to rebuild America’s roads, rails, and runways that will put folks to work and make our country more competitive.

Taken together with the small business tax cut and lending plan we passed through Congress last week, these steps will help spur jobs in the short run, and strengthen our economy for the long run.

Now, the Republicans who want to take over Congress offered their own ideas the other day.

Many were the very same policies that led to the economic crisis in the first place, which isn’t surprising, since many of their leaders were among the architects of that failed policy.

It is grounded in same worn out philosophy.

Cut taxes for millionaires and billionaires.

Cut the rules for Wall Street and the special interests, and cut the middle class loose to fend for itself.

That’s not a prescription for a better future.

It’s an echo of a disastrous decade we can’t afford to relive.

The Republicans in Washington claimed to draw their ideas from a website called “America Speaking Out.”

It turns out that one of the ideas that’s drawn the most interest on their website is ending tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas.

Funny thing is, when we recently closed one of the most egregious loopholes for companies creating jobs overseas, Republicans in Congress were almost unanimously opposed.

The Republican leader John Boehner attacked us for it, and stood up for outsourcing, instead of American workers.

So, America may be speaking out, but Republicans in Congress sure aren’t listening.

They want to put special interests back in the driver’s seat in Washington. They want to roll back the law that will finally stop health insurance companies from denying you coverage on the basis of a preexisting condition.

They want to repeal reforms that will finally protect hardworking families from hidden rates and penalties every time they use a credit card, make a mortgage payment, or take out a student loan, and for all their talk about reining in spending and getting our deficits under control, they want to borrow another $700 billion, and use it to give tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires.

On average, that’s a tax cut of about $100,000 for millionaires.

Instead of cutting taxes for the wealthiest few, tax breaks we cannot afford, I’ve called for tax cuts for middle class families who saw their incomes shrink by five percent during the last, lost decade.

We’ve already cut 8 different taxes for small business owners to help them hire and grow, and we’re going to cut 8 more.

We’re challenging our states and schools to do a better job educating our kids and making college more affordable so America can once more lead the world in the proportion of our kids graduating from college, and we’re putting an end to the days of taxpayer-funded bailouts so Main Street never again has to pay for Wall Street’s mistakes.

America is a great country.

Our democracy is vibrant, our economy is dynamic, and our workers can outcompete the best of them.

But, the way for us to remain the greatest country on Earth isn’t to turn back the clock and put the special interests in charge.

It’s to make sure all our people are getting a fair shake. It’s to make sure everyone who’s willing to work for it still has a chance to reach for the American dream, and that will remain my mission every single day so long as I have the honor of serving as President.

I think instead of the jibberish you need to tell me which of those numbers I presented wasnt true...

Was it the GDP? Unemployment Rate? 52 striaght weeks? Do you want to talke about where each and everyone one of those numbers are today? 4 years after the Dumbasscrats took over?


The dirty useless swamp is in the backyard of the Firm known as Pelosi, Reid and OBama.

Its not your numbers that are soooooo wrong but the claim that the economy we have now was created in a couple of years of dem congressional control.

Do you want me to go get the tape of Bush (with fear in his eyes) announcing the bailouts or we would be in a depression?

The budget of 2008 was created by the wonderful leadership of Pelosi/Reid.

The massive deficits in Congress were all at the hands of the Dem leadership. 2008, 2009, 2010....

for SHAME.... :)
 
No one in Washington, D.C. should be worried about polls or elections in making a vote for what’s needed. The fact that we did not extend those middle-class tax cuts and take a vote was wrong.

We get to take some actions that you wish you wouldn’t have had to vote for. Who wants to vote for an emergency bill like the Recovery Act?

Two unpaid for wars that cost us more than just greenbacks.
 
It would take a real stretch to think I caused the problems with the economy. I don't have any hand in what took place during the Bush administration. I tried to rein that in.
