Joseph, in fact, was probably a widower, and died sometime after Jesus was 12, and before he was 30. After time had elapsed, the Church continued to understand her to be a perpetual virgin, because after Jesus died, no other children stepped forward to take care of her, and she instead moved in to John's home. If Christ had any siblings, they came from Joseph's first marriage, and were sufficiently old enough to be out of the story.

In medieval times they also practiced early marriage and arranged marriages, it didn't change for a very long time.

Girls were as young as 12 when they married, and boys as young as 17. The arrangement of the marriage was based on monetary worth. The family of the girl who was to be married gives a dowry,or donation, to the boy she is to marry. The dowry goes with her at the time of the marriage and stays with the boy forever (Renolds).

It would threaten my lifestyle a bit, but so would a Christian theocracy as some wish for! I don't want an American Taliban, either! I enjoy being an American woman!

This cite is from the Humboldt University in Berlin. It gives a run down of marriage customs in western civilization. It says:

It was not until the 12th century that a priest became part of the wedding ceremony, and not until the 13th century that he actually took charge of the proceedings. Nevertheless, it remained understood that, even as a sacrament, marriage sprang from the free consent of the two partners, and that therefore neither the parents nor the priest nor the government could affect its validity. It thus became possible for couples to get married secretly if they could not obtain anyone else's approval. It also became possible for very young children to be married, if their parents could coax the necessary consent out of them. Especially aristocratic families often took advantage of this possibility when they found a politically advantageous match for their little sons or daughters. On the average, however, males married in their mid-twenties, and females in their early teens (i.e., soon after their first menstruation).

Im not a christian, but the faith itself does not explicitly teach that it must be the law of the land. Islam does teach that. This is only relevant if the actual teachings matter to you.
