But seriously, islam is a political/statist philosophy as well. It's a violent supremacist ideology of destruction, similar to nazi-ism.

We should reexamine what ideologies we give the protection of religious tolerance.

blunt-talking, seasoned veteran

To correct the shills

This morning, I wrote that Gen. James N. Mattis was being nominated to succeed Gen. Petraeus as commander CENTCOM.

I quoted the New York Times’ example of the general’s “bluntness” :

For his part, General Mattis has gotten in trouble for past observations on a life of combat. In 2005, he received an official rebuke for comments that included “it’s a lot of fun to fight.”

“You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap around women for five years because they didn’t wear a veil,” he said while speaking at a forum in San Diego. “You know guys like that ain’t got no manhood left anyway, so it’s a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them.”

A blog subsequently reported:

A lot of news sources I’ve seen are cutting off the quote just after “It’s fun to shoot some people” in order to make Mattis look like some inhumane hair-trigger crazy who goes around popping just anybody, but reading the full quote tells us that the General is quite the defender of women and doesn’t mind ridding Afghanistan of any of its turban-clad Ike Turner types. Why aren’t women’s rights and anti-domestic violence activists patting him on the back?

I decided to look into and did find some inconsistencies in how the general was being quoted.

In an 11:03 “correction,” leading with “Corrected 11:03: An earlier version of this item incorrectly quoted Gen. James Mattis,” the Washington Post wrote:

Marine Corps Gen. James Mattis, then a lieutenant general, told a crowd in San Diego that it was “fun to shoot some people” and said that some Afghans deserved to die.

“You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years, because they didn’t wear a veil,” Mattis said. “You know guys like that ain’t got no manhood left anyway. So it’s a hell of a lot of fun to shoot ‘em.” (Watch Mattis’s comments in the video above.)

An earlier WaPo version today only had:

In 2005, Mattis was chastised by his superiors for saying in a public speech in San Diego that it was “fun to shoot some people.” Mattis was a three-star general at the time, stationed in Quantico, Va., when he told an audience that some Afghans deserved to die.

Finally, yesterday evening’s Wa Post version said this:

In 2005, Mattis was chastised by his superiors for saying in a public speech in San Diego that it was “fun to shoot some people.” Mattis was a three-star general at the time, stationed in Quantico, Va., when he told an audience that some Afghans deserved to die.

“Actually, it’s a lot of fun to fight,” he said. “You know, it’s a hell of a hoot. . . . It’s fun to shoot some people. I’ll be right upfront with you. I like brawling.”

He added, “You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn’t wear a veil. You know, guys like that ain’t got no manhood left anyway. So it’s a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them.”

His comments evoked laughter and applause from the audience.
Most other news sources are sticking to the version quoted by the New York Times.

It is not clear to this reader which version the Post’s correction applied to.

Perhaps it’s all a tempest in a “Wa Post,” perhaps not.

Regardless, the title of our original post referring to the new commander as a “blunt-talking, seasoned veteran” stands.

It was not a religion that attacked us that September day.

It was al-Qaeda, a sorry band of men which perverts religion.

That religion is a terrorist ideology. Islam is a political ideology that does not accept non-islamic government. Our freedoms are being used against us.

The constitution is not a suicide pact. For a president, you're pretty fucking stupid.

The highest honor we can pay those we lost, indeed our greatest weapon in this ongoing war, is to do what our adversaries fear the most, to stay true to who we are, as Americans; to renew our sense of common purpose, to say that we define the character of our country, and we will not let the acts of some small band of murderers who slaughter the innocent and cower in caves distort who we are.

Wrong. They laugh at us as they abuse our tolerance and lie to our faces.

Only stupid people accept totalitarian theocratic bullshit to flourish in their midst.

im sorry prez, but you're sorely in need of reprogramming to make you less stupid.

They may seek to spark conflict between different faiths, but as Americans we are not, and never will be, at war with Islam.

I will do everything I can, as long as I am president of the United States, to remind the American people that we are one nation, under God. And we may call that God different names, but we remain one nation.

Islam is at war with all non-muslims. Ignoring that simple fact is a fatal mistake. But you hate america, so that's fine with you. You suck as president.

But we should wake up and point fingers at islam for the intolerant and anti-freedom ideology it is.

Islam is the opposite of everything america stands for.

your appeals to jingoisistic abstraction and pointlessness, have failed you again, barry.

Just as we condemn intolerance and extremism abroad, so will we stay true to our traditions here at home as a diverse and tolerant nation.

We champion the rights of every American, including the right to worship as one chooses.

Allowing islam a foothold in this nation will make us less tolerant, as islamicists spread their toxic poison.

Being open minded is one thing, but being so open minded your brain falls out is another, Mr. President.

The perpetrators of this evil act didn’t simply attack Americans.

They attacked the very idea of America itself, all that we stand for and represent in the world.

Those who attacked us sought to demoralize us, divide us, to deprive us of the very unity, the very ideals, that make America America, those qualities that have made us a beacon of freedom and hope to billions around the world.

They may wish to drive us apart but we will not give in to their hatred and prejudice.

The Scripture teaches us to get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.

As Americans, we will not and never will be at war with Islam.

But mostly they want to subjugate us to Allah. We are at war with islam, despite your idiotic rantings to the contrary.

You need to take your pills now. Run along, go get better.

This country stands for the proposition that all men and women are created equal, that they have certain inalienable rights.

One of those inalienable rights is to practice their religion freely.

As someone who relies heavily on my Christian faith in my job, I understand the passions that religious faith can raise, but I also respect that people of different faiths can practice their religion.

We are war with terrorists and murderers that had perverted Islam, had stolen its banner to carry out their outrageous acts.

We are not at war with Islam.

We are not going to be divided by religion.

We are not going to be divided by ethnicity.

What that means is that if you could build a church on a site, if you could build a synagogue on a site, if you could build a Hindu temple on a site, then you should be able to build a mosque on the site.

They're going to school with our kids.

They're our neighbors.

They're our friends.

They're our co-workers, and, you know, when we start acting as if their religion is somehow offensive, what are we saying to them?

We're saying fuck you and your violent stupid religion you should be forced to denounc before entering the nation.

Maybe it's your christian faith that is obscuring your reason on this issue. I am an atheist, so i guess that means i can see things more clearly than you.

Civilized, reason-based nations should reject the atrocious theocratic memes of islam.

Hay President Obama AssHatZombie thinks your a fascist. Are you a fascist?

Let me repeat what I said a couple of days ago.

The idea that we would burn the sacred texts of someone else's religion is contrary to what this country stands for.

It's contrary to what this nation was founded on.

In the age of the Internet, something can cause us profound damage around the world, and so we've gotta take it seriously.

But, I'm also commander in chief, and we are seeing today riots in Kabul, riots in Afghanistan, that threatened our young men and women in uniform, and so we've got an obligation to send a very clear message that this kind of behavior or threats of action put our young men and women in harm's way, and it's also the best imaginable recruiting tool for al Qaeda.

This is endangering our troops, endangering our sons and daughters.

Please don't. Spare us the simplistic bromides.

no. It's the idea of freedom of expression. you need to be re-educated on americanism.

Islamics need to be made to understand that in a free society, people are allowed to express negative opinions about anything.

You probably want censorship; that shows your profound miscomprehension of american precepts and values.

Is AssHatZombie correct Barack Obama?
