Terry Jones 15 minutes are about up!

Taichiliberal

Shaken, not stirred!
Okay, let's get real. If the neocon driven GOPers and their bullhorns Fox News, NewsMax, etc., weren't all banging the gong about a cultural center that contains a mosque to be put in a renovated building 2 blocks away from Ground Zero....assholes like Terry Jones would have been given VERY little coverage from the MSM. Yet now we're told THE WORLD hinges on what his schmuck will do next...and that suits him just fine. Pity the intense coverage doesn't include these little tidbits:

Terry Jones Accused of 'Spiritual Abuse' at Cologne Church

And if that weren't enough, here's the kicker:

Top Republicans Silent On Hate Pastor’s Planned Quran Burning Event

Once again, the GOP has NOTHING to offer except fear and a repeat of the policies that put the screws to this country during the Shrub years.

Are you for the ground zero mosque, Libby?

What do you think, Southy? Oh, and FYI.....the "mosque" is actually a prayer area to be contained within the Islamic cultural center that's will be in a RENOVATED building of an OLD factory......it relieves the painfully overcrowded one that's 2 blocks over and has been there for about 40 years. Meets all the city specs and regulations, approved by local zoning board.

Now, any thoughts about what I posted regarding Terry Jones and all his clap trap?

So you're OK with Muslims building a victory mosque on Ground Zero but not OK with some preacher burning a Koran in the middle of Nowhere, FL.

How do you explain your hypocrisy?

Where is all of the "victory mosque" stuff coming from?

Is that just the regurgitation of people who know about 2% of what the Muslim faith entails and have just read that on redstates.com?

Im ignoring this christian nut who wants to burn Korans, he is looking for fame and maybe money.

Except I like his chops.

Being against the center shows intolerance and gives ammo to terrorists.

Being for the Qur'an burning shows intolerance and gives ammo to terrorists.

Where's the hypocrisy?

Unless it's driven by bigotry right?

Where have I suggested taking away first amendment rights on either side?

Why are you uncomfortable with the idea of identifying the motivations for protests on both sides? Dixie has called the situations basically identical, but have you read some of what Jones has said on this? It's right out of the Archie Bunker playbook, and, imo, reflects a lot of what people who opposed the mosque were saying...

Is this surprising, given the last 6 months of muslim bashing?

One thing I'll give Shrub props for, is that after 9/11 he went to some pains to show acceptance of Islam as a religion, and made some pretty good public comments about Islam being reputable and respected world religion.

Amazingly, today's republicans have even gone more NeoCon-ish than the Shrub himself! Fright night!

Here's the thing that most of you anti constitutionalists don't get though....

I'm not thrilled with the idea of the mosque/cultural center/whatever being built at or near ground zero, but I believe in the freedom of religion, therefore am not going to protest it's placement there nor am I going to hope and pray that the nanny state government violates their right to build there. I'm not thrilled with the idea of the quran burning, but it's most definitely a freedom of speech issue, therefore i'm not going to protest the spectacle/event nor am I going to hope and pray that the beloved government steps in to stop it. If the FBI or federal government in general has used some sort of coercion or threat of any legal action, THEN i'm going to protest loudly against the government.

I may not like what you say or do in the expression of your 1st Amendment rights, but i'm damn sure not going to let anyone step on your right to do so. I would HOPE that most people would do the same for me and my rights, but unfortunately I know all too well that most people are all about 'rights for me, none for thee'. so step up and be a real American.

being against either one of them is being against the 1st Amendment. Where's your sense of freedom?

Well, I support the community center, and probably the Qur'an burning as well, if we're approaching it in the strictly legal sense.

The issue is whether it's hypocrisy, and I'm not buying that interpretation.

I think it's more hypocritical to argue that the center will be built on "hallowed ground", the lack of acknowledging that Muslims, too, were killed on 9/11, and that all Muslims have to bear the onus of 9/11 instead of the nineteen and their supporters who actually pulled it off.

I also think Terry Jones could have had his insignificant little protest with little or no outcry but the media gave it more attention than it deserved.

Actually I haven't read a thing Jones has said. I'm still not sure why a kook like him would be getting such national attention.

Christie wrote is was insensitive to Muslims to say the center/mosque should be moved. I think New Yorkers have made the argument it is insensitive to them to place the center/mosque where it is (proposed).
