More religious intolerance...from Temeculah, California

And speaking of hallowed ground...

"But I find the righteous outrage of those contending the former World Trade Center site is "hallowed ground" amusing, because they have no idea just how right they are. Before the World Trade Center was even designed (with Islamic architectural elements, incidentally), the ground was indeed sacrosanct: The bones of some 20,000 African slaves are buried 25 feet below Lower Manhattan. As at least 10 percent of West African slaves in America were Muslims, it's not out of bounds to extrapolate that ground zero itself was built on the bones of at least a few Muslim slaves. That is to say, hallowed Muslim ground.

For some time, activists, historians, and city officials have been working together to excavate and preserve the bones of the slaves buried under present-day lower Manhattan. A recent excavation of a 14,000 square foot section of the six-acre burial ground found that 92 percent of the 419 skeletons were of African descent, and 40 percent were children under 12. The bones of the 419 slaves were eventually reinterred.

African slaves couldn't be buried in New York City itself, so they were put to rest along the city's then-northern border, near present-day Chambers Street. The exact borders of the burial ground are fuzzy, and experts say that without test digs, they won't be able to tell how far it extends. The area they've excavated so far ends just a block or two from ground zero, but with the huge number of African slaves that lived and died in New Amsterdam, I find it hard to believe the burial grounds didn't extend further.

At any rate, some of the slaves' belongings were definitely at ground zero: About 100 boxes of artifacts from the African graves were stored at 6 WTC, which was crushed by the North Tower on 9/11, but thankfully archivists were able to recover them. A few of the items were strings of blue beads found buried with the slaves...which some think could be Islamic prayer beads.

Park51 won't even be at ground zero proper (across from Brooks Brothers or the Century 21 department store). But if it were, it would still be perfectly defensible. In fact, since WTC was likely built over the centuries-old bones of Muslim slaves, it would be a downright blessing."

Your original post mentioned the NYC mosque along with the CA mosque. I commented on both of those. You mentioned the TN mosque, but did not provide a link to the story. But again, as I pointed out to you.... you are simply trying to link the actions of extremists to conservatives on the whole. You are pretending that conservatives have somehow failed to condemn the action in TN.

so tell us... WHY should 'conservatives' be ashamed?

Conservatives like to point out how they are closer to God than those Godless Liberals.

They even like to cite surveys that show how more Conservatives believe in God and go to church than Liberals.

Being closer to God and all, one would expect them to show some sympathy for Muslims being harassed.

I have lots of sympathy for the average Muslim, but none at all for radical Muslims. Do you see the difference?

yes...no conservatives have sympathy and all conservatives support the destruction of muslim property

All of which does nothing to explain why conservatives should be ashamed as you have not shown one shred of evidence that suggests conservatives have done anything to be ashamed of.

All you do is point to a few extremists and then pretend their actions are something all conservatives should be ashamed of. Which is retarded.

That is because, like Cypress, you read prejudice into every opposing view. He WANTS to proclaim everyone a bigot who opposes the site and he uses the extremists comments to paint all opponents with one big ass brush.

He likes running around shouting "bigot bigot bigot" because he is a fucking moronic parrot.

Tell us... do you really think 61% of the population are bigots towards Islam?

While I do not have a problem with the Mosque being a couple blocks away, I do think it is extremely intolerant of people like Cypress who want to demean everyone who does not share that view by calling them bigots.

Bottom line.... are there extremists who take a position due to bigotry/fear? Absolutely. But pretending that ALL opponents are bigots is also fear mongering bullshit.

Can you tell me an argument against the site that doesn't involve lumping all Muslims in with the hijackers, or doesn't refer to American Muslims as being somewhat less than other Americans, or that doesn't take a prejudicial view of Islam?

I'd be anxious to hear that....

Things for Conservatives to be ashamed of:

1...Fred Phelps and his followers

2..."Burn a Koran Day" at that Florida church

3...Attempting to deny Muslims their right to Religious Freedom in NYC, Tennessee and California.

I'm a pretty conservative dude but I'm not going to change who I am because there are some wack jobs that people conservative as well.

There are millions of people who fit into the categories of liberal, moderate and conservative. I'd be curious if anyone is willing to argue there are not wack jobs in either three of those categories? And if most/all agree there are in fact some wack jobs in all of those categories should we then not include ourselves in any group?

If I go to a football game and there are 80,000 fans and maybe 50 are acting up and causing a rukus etc. would I be intellectually honest if I claimed everyone of that team's fans sucked at the game based on the behavior of those 50?

so liberals should be ashamed because of louis farrakhan, the leader of the senate majority also saying that muslims should not build there....??

i'm sure harry reid would be more than willing to answer you

What a lazy, trite & oft-repeated answer.

I though Reid was a fairly deplorable leader prior to his mosque comments, and I certainly think so afterwards. Nor do I feel that the prejudice we have seen has been solely confined to conservatives; obviously, it isn't, with a quick glance at the polls.

Wanna try again?

harry reid says you're wrong and he is your party's senate majority leader...i suggest you write him a letter and explain to him your anguish and turmoil over his stance...:)

Can't say I didn't give you a shot. You shouldn't wander into conversations that are so clearly above your head.

Do a search on Reid under my moniker; you'll see how I feel about him.

I'm certainly not a fawning apologist like you are with GW.

The challenge still stands for anyone who has bigger brains than Yurt: I'd like to see the argument against the site that doesn't involve prejudice of some kind.

yeah...i'm a fawning apologist...care to spew any more bs today dunceler?

your premise is totally flawed. any argument will of course have some prejudice, eg, they don't want muslims building a mosque there for this or that reason. you will of course denounce any and all arguments as bigotted or prejudice....so your question is not only flawed, its loaded...

you should stick to 80's movie trivia, that is the only thing you can beat me on

That's all you really had to say. We agree.

So...why did you try to interject something about Reid before? Just being your usual self?
