You can if they are armed. Classic self defense issue.
The idea that the court considers MY driveway to be, essentially, public property for the purposes of law enforcement is beyond my comprehension. Maybe I should do what an acquaintance of mine did. Had a long driveway (about a 1/4 mile) with NO TRESPASSING posted. Underneath he added:
"This includes law enforcement officers. If you wish to speak with me, you may make an appointment, or get a warrant. Otherwise stay out!"
Actually made a citizens arrest against an officer who ignored it - and made it stick.

He called 911 and had them send out a 2nd car. He told the officer to wait for the other car, which he did. (Leaving after being told to wait would have gotten the officer in BIG trouble, possibly even fired.) When the other officers got there, he was waiting for them at the gate and formally filed trespassing charges.
That's epic. Did he deliver the officer to a judge or to the station?
They actually had to put the guy in cuffs and take him back to the station.
The dept. tried to get the charges dropped, but with the sign in plain sight, they didn't have much of a defense, especially since the sign included the "make an appointment" clause. They could have called ahead, didn't, and paid the price.
