That's BS. It was politics.
If I go destroy a neighborhood, and scream out "I do this in the name of Judaism!", would you oppose a Jewish business in or near whatever they rebuilt there?
A Jewish temple at the site, yes. A jewish deli, no.

You're a nutjob, Dix; you hardly type a single post without directly saying or implying that Muslim Americans are something less than regular Americans. You've called them murderers, radicals, extremists, zealots and said many times that "they're the ones who attacked us!"
You've really lost your mind to deny that...
Yes, the obvious underlying motive is that Republicans like to have a wedge issue they can use to divide the country during election cycles.
The planned Community Center is that wedge issue for the midterm elections.
Oh wow how fucking surprising the empty headed dorkpuss pulls the race card from his deck of specious cards!
Again fuckwad, no one is objecting to the erection of a mosque or event center...only the location in this instance.
Assholes like you make impotent the term racist.

Really?
Just the location?
Then why all the fuss in Murfreesboro, Tennessee?
Racists there are trying to keep a Mosque from being built.
What about Sheboygan, Wisconsin?
Residents there are upset Muslims want to build a Mosque.
So again I ask, what's REALLY the problem with all you people?

BS! Those behind this are arguing against what they call Islamization of America. They are using the location as a means to foment hatred.
The problem with US people is, radical Islam is at war with America and wants to destroy it, apparently just as badly as the Democrats do! We don't like it. We want to protect what we have here, and not allow it to be destroyed, by radical Muslims, or by low-life pond scum democrats!

What does that have to do with a community center several blocks from the WTC, and owned and operated by american muslims?
Your contention is that these american muslims want to destroy america?
do you know how freaking crazy you and your merry band of wingnuts sound?
zappa, oncelear, and Rstringfield are right. This isn't about a community center in manhattan. This is about xenophobia, bigotry, and paranoia about muslims - even american muslims.
Why don't you wingnust just admit that, instead of coming up with laughable excuses for what the mathematical radius of "hallowed ground" is?
."Park51, originally named Cordoba House .....(the alleged "ground zero mosque") controversy was sparked from a campaign launched by Pamela Geller, a right-wing, anti-Muslim blogger and founder of the group "Stop Islamization of America".[10][13] The campaign then gained wide recognition when it was publicized by New York Post columnist Andrea Peyser."[10]

OSA appears to be a very politicised group...so what! They are but one voice against the GZM
Do OSA members carry signs like these?

You know what asswipe... you're absolutely right! We just HATE people! That's what's wrong with us! We just, for no reason but spiteful bigotry, HATE radical Islam! We're all paranoid xenophobes, who want to cling to our guns and our god, and HATE people who are different than us! That's the size of it, as you've deduced! NOW... Go trot your happy little democrat ass out there, and RUN on THAT! You go out there and tell EVERYBODY how the right are a bunch of racist homophobic intolerant bigots, and wait for the election results to come rolling in! I'm sure you're going to have a very good election year with THAT message! GO FOR IT! ....GO ON.... NOW!
SIOA is the primary group that has made Park-51 an issue. They have ties to most of these other protests, that have nothing to do with being near "Ground Zero." Gingrich and others quote and praise these nuts and rely on them for their talking points.
The people holding the signs in your picture have nothing to do with this issue and those emulating them are nothing but anti-American bigots.
See? There you go. The people behind this community center - again, Americans - are "radical Islam."
Now, go all schizophrenic again, and tell me that you never said that.
The people holding these signs are protesters...certainly more nutty and deranged then SIOA or OSA who do not call for butchering, head chopping death. They are merely people free to exercise there freedom of speech.
These two groups together, no matter how nutty you claim they are, do not make up a significant number of those 68% opposed...I had not even heard of either group until you mentioned them.
Apparently 6 stories of the GZM are to be used for the Shariah Index Project

By the end of this year, it expects to release the results of an unprecedented poll, conducted with the Gallup Organisation, that asked people in 44 majority-Muslim nations how well they felt their country complied with Islamic principles.
“It will create an annual rating, a score to rate countries on how compliant they are,” said Imam Feisal.
“And we’d like to index both Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) and non-OIC countries, because we know some non-OIC countries will score higher than some OIC members on some principles like justice, protection of minorities and so on.”
