Hello CasualLurker,
That's understandable but in addition there must be at least some concern for the nation in general. If nobody cares about the nation, and everyone just leaves it to the powers to be, then freedom is lost.
American democracy is dependent upon the active engagement of a well educated populace. We don't have that, which is why our democracy is failing.
We have allowed the true artificers of monarchy to elevate a man unprincipled in private life, greedily desperate in his own fortune, seeking of unending public attention, bold in his temper, possessed of considerable con man talents of fast talking bullshit, despotic in his ordinary demeanor, known to have scoffed at the principles of liberty to mount the hobby horse of popularity, join in the false cry of danger to liberty (of racists) to take every opportunity to embarrass the general government and bring it under suspicion, to flatter and fall in with the nonsense zealots of the day with the rather obvious object to throw things into confusion that he may ride the storm and direct the whirlwind.
(Thank you, Alexander Hamilton)
