Obama has not said he belives this Mosque should be build in this spot...

I already explained this, some issues it is good for the president to express opinions.... On others he should not...

When his opinion is against the requirements of the Constitution that he has sworn to protect and defend... He should keep quiet.

"Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country."

"That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances. This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable."
And I have explained as well, he would have been better to have kept up with the "it's a local issue" statement. Instead he waded into the water and attempted to be all things to all people, to voice support without "saying it is right"...

He still cannot seem to learn from the past. If you are going to take up the subject, the people will expect you to lead, instead they got vacillation and cowardice.

Obviously not. Had he learned from his past he would not have taken up the subject to begin with. His display of cowardice as he attempted to crawfish out of it without taking any position causes his problems today.

HE has an obligation to protect and defend the Constitution, so Id say he had to say something about the calls for government action against this Comunnity Center.

No, he didn't. Even among those polled that say it "shouldn't be built" there is agreement that they have a "right" to build it. Had the controversy actually been the legality, then it would be important for him to take up that position. However, he thought he could safely avoid controversy by simply reiterating the 1st Amendment when nobody with any power whatsoever was arguing against it.

It would have been better for him to continue the line his handlers created for him... "This is a local issue only." Instead we got vacillation and cowardice as he attempted to be all things to all people. If he was going to wade into the waters, he may as well have taken a swim.

"Nazis don't have the right to put up a sign next to the holocaust museum in Washington," N.Gingrich...

So what was he implying, since you are so bing on implication...

Seriously, if that is what you take away from my saying that "Obama would be better off not taking up the conversation if he was unwilling to take a position" then you are beyond any piece of hope we may have ever thought you might have.

It is nice to see that you admit neither of them said we should make it illegal for them to build mosques...

"You know, there are over a hundred mosques in New York City. I favor religious freedom. I'm quite happy if they'd come in and said, "We want to build a community center near Central Park, we'd like to build a community center near Columbia University." But they didn't. They said right at the edge of a place where, let's be clear, thousands of Americans were killed in an attack by radical Islamists."

So he favors religous freedom around Central Park but not in Lower Manhattan?

Again, what law does he call for them to pass or will you admit that he doesn't say what you try to make him say? Newt is clearly one of those who would be "offended" by the presence of the Mosque there, but even he doesn't say there should be a law against it.

Obama took a position on the Constitutionallity of the Community Center. He did not take a position further than that.

He took no position. His attempt was to reiterate what almost everybody agreed on, that it was legal. It was an attempt to avoid controversy while "weighing in" on the topic. As a President he'll not be able to do that without creating the very controversy he tried to avoid.

Again, this is NOT about religious freedom! You said yourself, you think the mosque at ground zero is in bad taste, so you agree with Newt! You agree with me and Damo! Harry Reid agrees with us as well! He said it should be built someplace else. You know who agrees with Obama? Hammas! Hezbollah!

I don't even get the "bad taste" argument. First, it's not even at "ground zero". If you've ever walked in Manhattan, there are hundreds of businesses & organizations in a 4 block radius.

To say it's in "bad taste" is basically saying you think Muslims are the enemy, and that the whole religion attacked us on 9/11. To me, that's just twisted, though I know that's what many of you are saying.

So NOW you imagine something is being IMPLIED....yet for days with the Obama and the mosque issue, you just can't possibly see any implications in his words....lol....

Well...I AGREE WITH HARRY....

Sen. Harry Reid comes out against Obama-backed plan for mosque near Ground Zero
and for the very first time, I agree with Harry....I too am against the OBAMA-BACKED PLAN FOR THE MOSQUE

obama essentially stated that it would be unamerican to not build the mosque on hallowed ground....

While insisting that the place where the twin towers once stood was indeed "hallowed ground," Mr. Obama said that the proper way to honor it was to apply American values.

Harkening back to earlier times when the building of synagogues or Catholic churches also met with opposition, Mr. Obama said: "Time and again, the American people have demonstrated that we can work through these issues, and stay true to our core values and emerge stronger for it. So it must be and will be today."

it is clear obama at first supported it, then seeing the reaction of voters has now backpeddled

Dixie, asshat, bravo, Palin and Newt all disagree.

This is an excellent observation, but I'll bet the Jarhead still doesn't get it!

ITs just not true...
