Republican prosecutor Clay Fuller won the special election to replace former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in the House, NBC News projects, defeating Democrat Shawn Harris in a runoff in Georgia on Tuesday.

The special election to fill the rest of Greene’s term in the 14th Congressional District went to a runoff after no candidate in the crowded all-party primary won a majority of the vote last month. Fuller, who is a district attorney, was the firm favorite, entering the Tuesday runoff with President Donald Trump’s endorsement in a district Trump carried by 37 percentage points in the 2024 presidential race.

With more than 85%of the expected vote counted, Fuller led Harris by 15 points, 57.5%-42.5%.

Harris,
a retired Army brigadier general and cattle rancher, raised $6.4 million this election cycle and launched ads knocking “out-of-touch politicians” from both parties who “don’t understand how difficult things are for hardworking Georgians.”

The Dems had a very strong candidate and still lost. This has been a terrible day for the Dems. Oil prices falling the Strait of Hormuz is open a two week cease fire on our terms. And now this. Just an awful day for the Dems.

So what does being black have to do with it?
I am surprised it was as close as it was GA being such a deep red state and all.
Dems losing by 15 points is not close.

Approximately 17% to 22% of Democratic voters in the United States are Black, making them a significant racial bloc within the party's coalition. While roughly 80% to 90% of Black Americans identify as Democrats or lean toward the party

But in such a RED state it is.
It should have been well over 20 points if not more.

This pads our majority a little.
Only a simpleton sees this as a win as that was arguably the safest republican seat in the country and no dem candidate could change that other than to show how deeply Trump support has plummeted even in that area.

If a republican could run and get close to winning in the most blue part of Portland that would be a win for them too demonstrating how weak the brand is even in the strongholds.

This election was a disaster for magats showing support is down 30 points meaning if you are not in such a deep red seat with a bigger margin than that you are at great risk.

Be thrilled that the dumbest of magats, like Fastlane, who do not know how to read data or election results are running the party.

I truly hope all magats see this as great news and think it means they do not have to worry as the midterms come.

I've always said magat stupidity is our super power.

maybe they will get over confident and not go out and vote in the mid terms.

Shocker

Georgia 14th was gerrymandered to be an easy win for Republicans. They are supposed to win it by 30 to 50 percent. They put a few Democratic voters in the Southeast to make fewer Democratic leaning districts, but other than that it is completely uneducated, white, rural, hardcore Republicans voters... And now Republicans cannot even depend on that.

They have gone from 50 point leads, to 30 point leads, and now down to an 11.8% lead. If the local election rules did not include a runoff if no one received a majority, then the Democrat would have won with a strong plurality of the vote. This is supposed to be an easy win for Republicans.

This pads our majority a little.
A real doctor would realize that keeping a seat does not pad a majority. It keeps the current smallest majority in well over a century.

The Dems had a very strong candidate and still lost. This has been a terrible day for the Dems.
The Democrats put forward the exact same candidate they did in 2024. The Republicans put forward a candidate who was stronger than they had in 2024. Still Republicans lost twenty points. If Republicans lose 20% across the board, they will barely be one of the two major parties.

They had money and a good candidate yet they still lost by 15 points.
Again, the same candidate who lost by 30 points, just lost by 11.8 points(not 15 points). That is a huge gain by Democrats. And Fuller was willing to campaign... Greene had trouble campaigning.

33% of Georgians are Black.
The 14th District is 11.9% Black. Most of the district has almost no Blacks, but a little bit of the district reaches all the way down to Atlanta to steal some votes. It is mostly all white rural voters.

Dems losing by 15 points is not close.
11.8% is not 15%. This is a district that normally would go to Republicans by 30 to 50%. Republicans are losing votes like crazy.

There is no such thing as a strong democrat candidate, just weak voters.
