A district court in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday permanently blocked President Trump’s executive order to halt funding to National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcast Service (PBS).(y)

In a lengthy ruling, U.S. District Judge Randolph D. Moss moved to prohibit the enforcement of Executive Order 14290. The president signed this order in May, and it directs the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) to cease paying out allocated federal funding to NPR and PBS.

“Because the First Amendment does not tolerate viewpoint discrimination and retaliation of this type, the Court will issue judgment against the federal agency defendants declaring Section 3(a) of the Executive Order is unconstitutional and will issue an injunction barring those defendants from implementing it,” the judge, an appointee of former President Obama, wrote in his Tuesday ruling.

A district court judge cannot permanently block anything. This will fall on appeal, and the demthug judge should be impeached.

"Permanent" until overturned on appeal which is almost certain to happen. This isn't a First Amendment issue so his ruling is almost certain to fail on appeal.

Isnt it interesting? The elected branches fund a project and the judiciary says they can no longer end it.

Suddenly government bloat becomes clear.

In this case, a lone low-level judge has ruled. This will go to the court of appeals and be tossed like so many other stupid rulings from district court judges against Trump have been. That's not to defend Trump, but rather to point out that judges are putting politics ahead of law here.

In this case, the judge says PBS's First Amendment right to free speech has been infringed on. Well, there are several obvious problems with that.

First, PBS, like all television broadcasters is licensed by the FCC. There are rules about content and such put on them with that license. PBS, by accepting a license, agrees to those restrictions. Their First Amendment rights are restricted.

Second, PBS, if it is a public corporation and either owned by the government, or subsidized by the government, has its First Amendment right to speech restricted by that ownership or subsidy. Like the FCC license, if the government owns or subsidizes something they can put restrictions on what PBS can say, air, and do.

So, this judge's argument is nonsense.
