Dr. Laura claims she was trying to "make a philosophical point, and she articulated the “n” word all the way out –"

So whats the problem....we'd have to hear it in context to make a judgement on it....
I personally listened to Sen. KKK Byrd talk about "white niggers' on TV (2001) and use the "n" word numerous times with no ramifications at all....
He never apologized for it once....

Of course, Sen. Byrd was a Democrate while Dr. Laura is viewed as a Conservative Republican....

Dr. Laura Schlessinger has apologized after a shocking rant on her radio show this week during which she said the n-word 11 times over the course of five minutes.

In conversation Tuesday with a black female caller who was complaining about her white husband's racist friends and their use of the word, Schlessinger said:

Black guys use it all the time. Turn on HBO and listen to a black comic, and all you hear is n****, n*****, n*****. I don't get it. If anybody without enough melanin says it, it's a horrible thing. But when black people say it, it's affectionate. It's very confusing.

After a break, the caller said she was appalled by Schlessinger's use of the word.

"Oh, then I guess you don't watch HBO or listen to any black comedians," she said. "My dear, the point I am trying to make...we've got a black man as president and we've got more complaining about racism than ever. I think that's hilarious."

Schlessinger and the caller then got into an exchange about the use of the word:

CALLER: Is it OK to say that word? Is it ever OK to say that word?

DR. LAURA: It depends how it's said. Black guys talking to each other seem to think it's ok.

CALLER: But you're not black, they're not black, my husband is white.

DR. LAURA: Oh, I see, so a word is restricted to race. Got it. Can't do much about that.

CALLER: I can't believe someone like you is on the radio spewing out the n***** word, and I hope everybody heard it.

DR. LAURA: I didn't spew out the n***** word!

CALLER: You said "n*****, n*****, n*****" and I hope everybody heard it.

DR. LAURA: Yes they did, and I'll say it again: n*****, n*****, n***** is what you hear on HBO.

[Crosstalk]

DR. LAURA: Why don't you let me finish a sentence? Don't take things out of context. Don't NAACP me, leave them in context.

Dr. Laura Schlessinger. Speaking to a black caller who called for advice on handling racial tensions with her white husband, Dr. Laura uses the offensive word eleven times and ultimately tells the caller that if she doesn’t “have a sense of humor,” she should not “marry out of your race.”

The caller explained that she was beginning to grow “resentful” of her husband because he seemed comfortable with a neighbor continually making racist comments about her.

Wow. Well faux Dr. Laura is obviously a bigoted quack.

But, this lady totally needs to divorce this panty-waist. There might be a handful of times in life when you need to punch a dude in the mouth on behalf of your wife, and this dude totally failed the testosterone test!

people like you continue racism in this country

the point she was making (which she always makes) is - toughen up. i used to listen to her in college on hot summer jobs and we would all bust up over the harsh advice she gave people. no different here. but sensitive pansy's like yourself are all offended a white woman used the term nigger....yet, you have no problem with blacks use the term.

and, she did not use the term in a racist manner. but of course, she is a white woman and automatically a racist to you cypress.

The traction you guys get out of Byrd is amazing...

Here was a man who was clearly racist, held racist viewpoints for many years, was a high-ranking member of the Ku Klux Klan, routinely threw out the "N-word", and seemingly never got one shred of criticism from the left for it. Contrast that with a conservative radio talk show host who is trying to make a very valid and legitimate point, being called on the carpet for "a racist rant" as DQ put it. Nothing she said was denigrating toward blacks, it wasn't a "racist" remark, she did not espouse a "racist" viewpoint, she merely raised a legitimate question... why is it okay for black men on HBO to use a word, yet "racist" for a white person to use the same word... IN ANY CONTEXT?

I'm not going to defend Dr. Laura. She handled it wrong. If I brought the conversation around to where I was attacking the woman (which I probably wouldn't have done), and she got mad and accused me of using the N word, I would have gotten mad, but I would have said, "no, I said you're an idiot!" Then as she repeated the N word at me I would have just kept saying "idiot, idiot, idiot, moron, frickin' moron," and then cut her ass off...

You're not going to defend Dr. Laura because you are a guilt-ridden white guy who has to fall all over yourself to appear 'politically correct!' You are actually a BIG part of the problem, along with black people who think "nigger" is a word they have a right to express because of the color their skin happens to be.

The word is either derogatory slang or it isn't, and it shouldn't matter who is saying it or how it's being used, it's either inappropriate or it's not. But what politically correct fuckwits like you have done, is to make it somehow "okay" for a black man to repeat the word with impunity, while a white person is relegated to saying "the n-word" like we're 10-years-old, and our mom or dad is going to flog us with a ruler should we dare to actually SAY the word!

Dr. Laura brought a very important question to the table, and as of yet, no one here has even addressed her point. Instead, you are all myopically focused on her being a white conservative using the word, and completely distorting the context in which she said it.

You're right about me, except that I'm more naturally inclined to be PC than you'd think.

The rest of that was all bullshit. Ghetto slang doesn't even concern either one of us...

my dad listens to michael savage and the other night he told me about what he thought was the funniest thing ever - michael savage saying his dog knows 200 words while a black man only knows 50. im wondering why the media hasn't picked up on that one yet... seems like a good firing story.

typical white racist from bumblefuck alabama upset that he can't use the n-word like "those black folk do in their moving picture rap videos with all their bitches and hos"

I listened to Michael Savage when I was 16 until I was about 19. He seemed hilarious to me back then, but then he just delivered anger and not as much humor, so I got tired of him. There was a period of time when he and Larry Elder played back-to-back, and it was epic. The first time I caught them both, Savage already had me laughing from random soundbites, and Larry comes on with this byte of dogs barking, and when a caller got so stupid, he added the Imperial March, and I practically died. I was sitting shotgun to my dad, and he was laughing too. :)

I don't buy your GOSSIP, little blue-haired old lady, Grind! You're repeating what someone told you Savage said, and I have no way of knowing the actual words he used or context in which he was speaking. This is probably why the media hasn't 'picked up on it' yet, you goofy bitch.

Why is it, you are all ready to fire a conservative white man because you think he might have insulted a black man, but if he were black, or a democrat, you will give him a pass, claim he just had a lapse of judgment and 'misspoke'? Why is there a double standard with the word "nigger" after all the decades of history behind us?

I've never been one for political correctness, it is a dishonest and cowardly way to avoid standing for principles. But the whole 'racist' thing has been a real eye-opener to just how utterly foolish political correctness has become. Here we are, all caught up with the 'drama' of some public figure making a comment that is distorted and interpreted in all sorts of fucked up ways to make it "racist" and condemn her for it.... and meanwhile, a white dude in a pickup is running rampant through West Virgina and Virginia, killing black men by stabbing them to death! There's your RACIST! Are you talking about that? NOPE... Let's get the right-wing radio host fired for saying nigger!

Never got a "shred of criticism from the left?"

Sure, Reb.

He was one guy. That was my point; it's funny that every time, over the course of years, whenever the right needs an example of a Democrat racist - it's Byrd.

Can't think of anyone else?

you gotta get more specific man. she could have been singing some NWA on the air for all we know. you ever hear white boys sing NWA? plenty of them do and it is funny as hell. now i responded before reading the rest of the thread so i'm sure this will all be explained.

he stands out the most that's why. i mean an ex-KKK member talks about white niggers on a TV interview? at my high school we had a couple of white dudes who lived in the ghetto and dropped n-bombs in every sentence and the brothers let them do so because they knew they were from the hood. people tried to clown them and call them wiggers. I like Byrd's term better personally.
