Israel troops

Israel has never fought beside the United States in any of our campaigns.

This current campaign has been launched by Israel and the USA, yet, the United States is the only one thinking of sending troops to invade Iran.

Why is that? Will they also send troops, and if not, why is that?

They might. They also might be the only ones with boots on the ground at Kharg Island with the US providing air cover. US boots on the ground in Iran is a big red line for many Republicans.

What makes you think they will supply troops, when they are launching a campaign in Lebanon?
Who? The Israelis? They've had a long-standing war with Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Although most Americans don't like it, they'll tolerate an air campaign in the area more so than a ground campaign. Bibi might run into trouble with spreading his assets too thin in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran.

OTOH, since Iran provides the funding for both Hamas and Hezbollah, taking down Iran is a twofer for Israel even if its only a notch or two.

Why would they send their people in to get killed when we will send ours in and get them killed.

IDF claims they are logistically not capable of preparing an expeditionary force to send Iran or anywhere farther afield.

It's a good point that IDF has never materially assisted the United States in our conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.

No doubt theirs are far more precious to them than ours are to them. Plus they need them to stomp around in Gaza killing people who look like they might favor Hamas or grow up to favor Hamas.

I wonder how many of those missiles Israel is using were paid for by your tax dollars, and mine?

The majority of them is my guess.

Probably true, but most Americans would become even more upset if Trump starts a ground campaign in the ME.

I think there is zero chance IDF would send an expeditionary force to materially assist the United States to invade or occupy any part of Iran, for a myriad of logistical and political reasons.

It would be more difficult for them, but a US occupation of Iran will not go well in Congress nor among US voters.

I find it hard to believe that impoverished Iran had the funds to support those terrorists. Russia is behind the whole ME mess and providing the rubles and arms and using Iran as a front. Iranians wouldn't have been protesting and rioting over economic issues if the country had extra money to waste on terrorism and building nukes.

Terrorists are cheap since they mainly run on ideology, not big paychecks. Plenty of weapons left over from all the various wars over there with a lot of them Russian-made AKs and explosives.

USA has to keep the Saudis, Kuwaitis, and Qataris happy too, and the optics of an Israeli expeditionary force occupying sovereign Muslim lands in the Persian Gulf is something all previous American presidents wanted to avoid.
Good point.

Still, while Iran is Muslim, they are also Shi'a and the Sunnis and Shi'as have been going cats and dogs for 14 centuries. Iran isn't making any friends by targeting their "fellow" Muslims.

There is a possibility the Gulf States might join a war on Iran, and Arab forces don't want to be seen fighting shoulder to shoulder with Jewish troops, even if it's against rival Muslims.

That is exactly why Poppy Bush made Israel sit on the sidelines in the 1991 Gulf War.

Agreed on GHW. That's why he pushed Israel to stay out of the war even as Saddam launched missiles at them.

An Arab force taking Kharg Island and backed by US airpower would be the optimal solution if invasion was in the works.
