Obama attacks Bush policies in Bush's home state

AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) – President Barack Obama attacked the economic policies of his Republican predecessor George W. Bush in Bush's home state on Monday as evidence of the way Republicans would operate if given power in November 2 U.S. congressional elections.

At a fund-raising event for Democrats in Dallas, where Bush now lives, Obama said the former president's "disastrous" policies had driven the U.S. economy into the ground and turned budget surpluses into deficits.

Obama defended his repeated references to Bush's policies, saying they were necessary to remind Americans of the weak economy he inherited from Bush in January 2009.

"The policies that crashed the economy, that undercut the middle class, that mortgaged our future, do we really want to go back to that, or do we keep moving our country forward?" Obama said at another fund-raising event in Austin, referring to Bush's eight years as president.

In reminding voters about the policies of the unpopular Bush, Obama is trying to protect his fellow Democrats' majorities in Congress and limit anticipated Republican gains.

does obama need a tissue?

I would say so, but let's wait and see if there's a big event coming up. He seems to be a black hole when big events turn up.

He's worse than Bush.

What part of this do you not understand?

the part where he fails to say how he's continuing those same policies.

I'm saying, "Obamas policies are nothing more than the same old thing."

Hello.

Is that clear enough.

There's no real difference.

Do you understand the words I've chosen?

You want 30 yrs of failed conservative policies fixed in 18 months by a centrist Democrat? Yea right.

first, it would be 8 years of failed policies, not 30.

second, he's not fixing any of those failures, he's creating new problems along with letting the old ones continue.

so lets try and keep up with some sort of an open mind, k?

Yurt has it backwards. It's the Republcians who's ideas, such a pre-emption and supply side economics that have failed.

So Republicans = failed ideas.

Democrats = no ideas.

Sorry, this OP as excuse conflicts with a law of the universe.

MC5 Law: Presidents who precede presidents set the framework for the current president, when they fail so abysmally as Bush Jr did it is only fair to be conscious and perceptive of that fact, and to note it, when blind partisans forget it.

That's why I consider Obama a conservative. We'll see just how conservative over the next couple of years. He said he believes in unions, getting rid of Bush tax breaks for the rich, ending Bush's illegal wars and taking this country down a more sensible path internationally. Steps like these would be a good start and prove to me that he believes in the people of this country and not chinese profits like you Fauxhounds on the right do.

Conservatives have schizophrenia about Obama.

On the one hand, he's a dangerous socialist, who has implemented policies that have veered the country off on an extreme left turn since January, 2009.

On the other, he's just like Bush!

People knew the situation we were in when he was elected. He was elected because voters thought he was the best to get us out of the doldrums. Most don't expect miracles but they do want to see progress or a light at the end of the tunnel. You look at the economy today and the attitude of consumers and it's not exactly jumping with future optimism.

No, not 8 yrs. Reagan began the war on the middle class, it was continued by BushI and Clinton (a conservative) signed Nafta/Gatt to seal our doom. Our problems have been building for 30 yrs, not just 8.

You can't blame one man, its conservative ideology that has failed and has intentionally caused hunger in this country.

FDR's cabinet officers always credited Hoover for giving them the ideas for, and essentially kicking off, the New Deal. So this wouldn't be the first time that a president continued his predecessor's failed policies.

I think everyone understands that line. It is a partisan whine fest that ignores most of what transpired that led us to the economic mess and instead attempts to blame 'the other party'.

Not only still running against Bush and his followers, but still cleaning the mess Bush and his followers created!
