Athiests Obviously Believe in SOMETHING!

I understand you are Anti-Christian, but that is a completely different thing than denouncing God completely. My take is, you denounce God because you dislike Christian beliefs in God, not because you don't believe in anything greater than self. Thanks for making that point for me again.

You aren't making any point. You are being completely non-sensical. I denounce all gods, but I don't have to argue with someone that believes in zeus very often. There is zero evidence of god, and I do not believe in things that I have no evidence for. It is just as likely there is an invisible dragon in our stratosphere. Those that believe in god are intellectual children. Their intellectual development is stunted. I don't say this to be mean, but to point out reality. Anyone that believe in an invisible man is either lying to themselves or has a mental problem.

Again you are erroneously/deviously connecting something as "greater than oneself" as spirituality. And I am not going to let you do that. The two do not have to go hand and hand.

Civil Law is "greater than myself" is that also spirituality?

Furthermore, you have provided zero evidence of your assertion that we are hard wired as such. It is not the only thing that separates us from animals. Provide me with one scientific peer reviewed paper that illustrates that spirituality is hard wired into a human brain, or accept defeat and admit you are talking out of your ass and stipulating facts not yet in evidence.

Civil law is established by man, it's not greater than man. Civilization itself, is based on spiritual belief and faith in something greater than man. So in a sense, civil law is somewhat inspired by spirituality.

Forgive me, but I don't subscribe to peer reviewed science publications, and those are not the basis for what is evident in human behavioral aspects. I pointed out once before, the earliest civilizations we've unearthed, show mankind's connection to the spiritual world. It has been an attribute associated with our species since the very first signs of civilizations. Being that we are also the only species capable of cognitive thought and reasoning, it is not improbable these two unique attributes are connected in some profound way.

I can agree with everything except your idea that everyone from Alabama is as ignorant as Dixie.

That just ain't the truth.

And yet another tongue-lashing response, following the exact same pattern. Curious, isn't it?

Dixie is playing another semantics game, it's a common trick he uses. He abstracts and deviates from hard definitions as much as possible to blur the issue.

Spirituality colloquially refers to the otherworldly, the intangible, the soul, the supernatural, non-physical, non-falsifiable world. Something religious, ecclesiastical.

Something spiritual may be greater than oneself, but something greater than oneself is not necessarily spiritual.

Dixie takes "believing in something greater than yourself" as something that is spiritual. This is erroneous.

He then subtlety connects being spiritual to believing in some type of god. Afterall, this is a thread about atheists, which concern themselves with the lack of a belief in god. That's what this thread is all about.

If one is a patriotic citizen, you are believing in something greater than the individual. Which in dixie's mind makes you spiritual. Which then leads you to believing in some type of god/energy/life force/bullshit. Which means you can't be an atheist. Thus most atheists actually believe in god.

Dixie actually believes this. And that's why he's an idiot.

And here, Grind feels compelled to continue heaping on the insults and denigration. After all, did he reveal anything new in what he believes? Hasn't he already established this prior to his posting? Previously, he was addressing me personally, telling me what he believed, how he thought I was wrong and stupid, etc. Now, he sees that this tactic isn't working to refute my point, and is actually making my point, so he has stopped talking directly to me. He is now appealing to you, the reader... telling you what is wrong with me, why my viewpoint is flawed, what makes me think the way I do, etc.

This is all a part of the denial mechanism, and how it works.

zero evidence provided.

that explains a lot about you.

What it explains is, my core principles, beliefs, and faith, do not lie in peer reviewed science journals, rather the force which enabled them to begin with.

so if you are actually stupid, if I call you stupid, that means I am denying the truth to myself? really?

The only person to believe something that stupid is you.

By the way, notice how you were just educating the reader yourself. Maybe you are actually an atheist.

dixie provide evidence that the success of civilization and mankind is based on spirituality. or admit you base your theories on nothing but your own inane thought process

Then if I spend my time believing in God and when I die I find out I'm wrong, then I've only wasted my time; but if don't believe in God and then when you die you find our you're wrong, well then your just wasted.

pascal's wager is one of the oldest and easily refeuted challenges. Why, I could conjure up a god that creates the universe but intentionally provides zero evidence for his existence, and then only rewards those who draw the most rational conclusion that he does not exist, based on the evidence available to them, and punishes all those ignorant humans that lack a capacity for rational thought and decided to believe in a god.

Dawkins also has an eloquent answer:

I wasn't trying to change your thinking.
That was only in response to you other post.

I do not believe in any "human spirit" I believe in the concrete idea of the human capacity for thought, reason and innovation. It has nothing to do with anything metaphysical.
Uhhhmm Grind.....if you're seeking a contradiction to your belief.......just look at who you're arguing with!

Gotta love yourself first and that means enough love to believe.
Uhh so you're saying that faith and love for oneself are mutually inclusive? That one cannot love oneself if they do not have faith in god? And what of your previous comment? You don't see the contradiction?

If you don't believe in God he will send you to hell for all eternity where you will suffer unendurable pain and agony in fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish where he will have you burn and scream and choke and cry in missery for ever and ever and ever till the end of time.....

......but he loves you!

It is one of the biggest reason I can't believe in the Christian god.

I didn't say or suggest the first.
As to the second, it has to do with the action vs consequence idea.
Liberals are always looking for a free ride. :cof1:
