Remember when

Teflon Don

I'm back baby
leftists used to claim that Super Bowl weekend marked a massive increase in domestic violence? The story they peddled was that "cro magnon" men got so invested in the game that if they didn't get the outcome they desired, they took their frustrations out on their poor meek wife or "significant" other.

I haven't heard that myth peddled by the left lately. Is it because it was always a lie? Or did they put on a ribbon and solve it?

Normal people still do recognize there is a spike in domestic violence around the Super Bowl. It has gotten better, but heavy drinking combined with emotions does trigger domestic violence. I would not say it is the cause, because I assume the abusers would just get drunk some other time and abuse, but it is definitely a trigger.

Saying it does not happen only makes it more acceptable. Thank G-d we no longer believe it is all fake like Don here. We can actually do something about it.

There is one element of domestic abuse surrounding the Super Bowl that is getting worse. With the widening of access to gambling, there is more financial domestic abuse, and the violence that goes along with financial problems. Usually the problem gamblers are able to hide it all for a while, but it is a way the Super Bowl can cause domestic violence, not just be a trigger.

I want to allow everyone to do everything they want, which means making gambling completely free, but I also see the damage it can do.

There was not much drinking during the Upper Paleolithic Period. To brew alcohol, you generally need agriculture, and even excess production of agriculture. That would put the heavy drinking, and the violence that goes along with it, into Neolithic Period.

When I worked in a ER Super Bowl weekends were usually very quiet.
When people drink heavily, and worse yet are wild about it, they will often end up in emergency rooms. Back when smoking was more acceptable in-doors, the Super Bowl would also trigger heavy smoking and more heart attacks.

I haven't heard that myth peddled by the left lately. Is it because it was always a lie?
Or... Now bear with me with this one... MAYBE IT IS BECAUSE YOU HAVE STOPPED LISTENING, OR EVEN CARING. I reassure you that those that care about domestic violence are still saying that it is a problem. Only you seem to believe it has gone away.

In other words, you are lying about it being "very quiet."

Well it was quiet till the game was over then it got busy. In the 70s I worked in a ER that was close to Texas Stadium. We would get heart attacks and assaults from the stadium all the time. Ambulances tend to stop at the nearest hospital except for major trauma then they go to the closest trauma center.

One New Years it was very quiet then around mid night a young woman came in and she had been punched in the face by her boy friend. She was a little bruised but otherwise seemed OK. Then she blew her nose. The tissue around her eye blew up like a frog. It was pretty freaky looking. She had fractured her sinus up into her orbit. I x-rayed her sinus and it wasn't very obvious. I called an ENT and he told me to put her on antibiotics and have her see him in the office.

So before your story was that it was quiet all weekend long, and now you admit there was a major spike in emergency room visits after the game? Your new story sounds real, but my question is why you didn't lead with the truth. You could have said, "When I worked in a ER Super Bowl weekends were usually crazy", and we would have believed you.

You misinterpreted what I said. ? During the game almost everyone was busy watching the game. The only people that came to the ER during the games were true emergencies which was only about 15 to 20% of the cases we saw. The rest were non-emergency visits.

I did? It seems rather straightforward. It is a one sentence statement that Super Bowl weekends are very quiet in the ER.

We know that is untrue. Could you have misspoken? Did you mean to say that during the game was calm, but after the game was insanity?

It is known as the calm before the storm.

How do you know that is untrue Walter? Have you ever worked during the Super Bowl in an ER? Have you ever worked a shift in the ER. Have you ever worked a day in the ER. Tell us about your vast ER experience Walter.

He is trying to support the claim that moderates and liberals are lying about Super Bowl violence. Sort of like when @T. A. Gardner lied about remittances, or @volsrocks . They cannot defend heir position without lying.
An alternative POV is that they are demented and/or mentally ill so they actually believe the delusional bullshit they post. It's surreal.
