Butler Mayor Wesley Dingus faces allegations of voyeurism after authorities say he was caught on a hidden camera sniffing a teen girl's underwear.

According to the report, the teen hid a small camera in a bedroom inside the house and received multiple movement notifications around 7:15 a.m. on Jan. 13 — indicating videos had been recorded. In the footage, deputies say Dingus could be seen smelling at least four pairs of the girl's underwear (two of which had been worn and were still unwashed) "for several seconds" as well as "touching his groin area over his clothes."

The deputy later spoke with Dingus and set up a time to talk with him, but that interview was canceled on the advice of Dingus' lawyer. It would be nearly a month before authorities wound up arresting Dingus, and development that occurred last Friday.

Dingus appeared in Mansfield Municipal Court on Thursday and was released from custody after posting 10% of a $10,000 bond. Judge Michael Kemerer ordered him to wear a GPS monitoring device and forbade him from having any contact with the accuser.

At the time of his arrest, Dingus had already been out on bond in a separate case that saw him indicted for aggravated assault and other charges in Bellville. According to officials, Dingus spotted a man who was trying to flee from police on July 11, 2025, and ran the suspect over with his car to stop him from escaping. Dingus has pleaded not guilty in connection with that incident, and the man involved was expected to recover from his injuries.
