Normal people still do recognize there is a spike in domestic violence around the Super Bowl. It has gotten better, but heavy drinking combined with emotions does trigger domestic violence. I would not say it is the cause, because I assume the abusers would just get drunk some other time and abuse, but it is definitely a trigger.
Saying it does not happen only makes it more acceptable. Thank G-d we no longer believe it is all fake like Don here. We can actually do something about it.
There is one element of domestic abuse surrounding the Super Bowl that is getting worse. With the widening of access to gambling, there is more financial domestic abuse, and the violence that goes along with financial problems. Usually the problem gamblers are able to hide it all for a while, but it is a way the Super Bowl can cause domestic violence, not just be a trigger.
I want to allow everyone to do everything they want, which means making gambling completely free, but I also see the damage it can do.
There was not much drinking during the Upper Paleolithic Period. To brew alcohol, you generally need agriculture, and even excess production of agriculture. That would put the heavy drinking, and the violence that goes along with it, into Neolithic Period.
When people drink heavily, and worse yet are wild about it, they will often end up in emergency rooms. Back when smoking was more acceptable in-doors, the Super Bowl would also trigger heavy smoking and more heart attacks.
Or... Now bear with me with this one... MAYBE IT IS BECAUSE YOU HAVE STOPPED LISTENING, OR EVEN CARING. I reassure you that those that care about domestic violence are still saying that it is a problem. Only you seem to believe it has gone away.
In other words, you are lying about it being "very quiet."
