They want their side of the story to be told, of course, which is their right.

No they don't. They want this to go away.
What is the GOP afraid of?
Nothing in particular. But that said, what the Republicans don't want is a circus shitshow of shouting, arguing, and pontificating that will 100% happen if the hearing is public. You can take that to the bank.

Of course, you would object and blame Hillary. Tell us why it is a bad idea. She is right, and you do not care about the truth. You want right wing "victories "which demand lies and cover-ups.
She wants to change the conditions for the deposition. That's, definitionally, moving the goal posts. If it is a public deposition, you can take it to the bank that the Democrats on the committee will spend their time pontificating and bloviating rather than asking any meaningful questions. There will be lots of shouting and disruptions. There always are. If it was the other way around the same thing, maybe not quite as bad, but the same sort of thing, happening.

The Clintons will dodge most of the questions with non-answers and drivel. That's pretty much standard for witnesses who are hostile to the whole hearing. In the end, it wouldn't change anything in particular. If there was anyone present I'd say doesn't care about the truth, it's the Hildabeast.

A closed-door deposition avoids the worst of the public antics by either side as they gain nothing from them.
