The Shirley Sherrod Incident

But the right also cries about Affirmative action...

It's because Affirmative Action is a blatantly RACIST policy! Do you not see that? It supports outright discriminatory practices on the basis of race! Now, granted, we once lived in an era and time, where maybe it was a worthwhile policy to help 'level the field' but that was nearly 50 years ago, we have changed, our attitudes toward race have changed, and this policy is an antiquated throwback to a day when racial discrimination was rampant throughout America, and especially in the workplace.

What AA does now, is foster a resentment and stigma between the races. How can a black man be proud of his achievements knowing the only way he got his shot was because he was black and AA made his opportunity possible? Wouldn't he be markedly better off, knowing he accomplished the same thing, based on his skill, knowledge and hard work? AA is a crutch, it is a way for black people to remain mired in a feeling of inadequacy, in need of a governmental mandate to achieve success... and it is a shield for white Liberals to hide their racism and say... SEE? See what we're doing for the poor unfortunate black man who can't make it on his own because he is an ignorant black-skinned person?

Resentment and stigma are bad, but the worst part of it is the actual discrimination against white males.

The staunchest white liberals of the day have no problem with racism against whites. You are 199% correct. If this were a story about a white woman or man making these claims about a black farmer the very people here trying to tamp down the story would be caterwauling so loud we'd never hear the end of it. This is a black democrat woman. Talk about the triple threat!

They couldn't care less what the message is or was Breibart was making. If you stuck the evidence right under their nose notorized by The Obama himself, they still would believe what they want to believe.

We have supposedly intelligent libertarian lawyers who cannot acknowledge the unconstitutional racism going on against whites. this is why libertarians are so stupid.

Yes, socrtease the human nut sack, this means you.

Proving what a moron you are. The tape was made in MARCH of THIS YEAR! She spoke of an incident that happened 26 years ago. And unless you have PROOF that Breitbart edited the full video (which he didn't have because the NAACP wouldn't release it) then you'd be wise to not slander him that way. Her career was ruined by an overreaction from the White House, not Breitbart!

You're right, it was a 26-year old incident, not tape. You're also correct in saying Vilsack and the WH overreacted without knowing all the facts.

None of this leaves the scum-sucking breitbart off the hook. He's absolutely guilty of the same actions you've criticized in the others. Furthermore, I didn't say he, personally, edited the tape, so save the faux outrage for the rabid righties. breitbart could have held off releasing the tape until he had full proof that Sherrod's talk was a story of racism, not redemption, but we all know that would have been a non-story, because the truth doesn't fly in wingnut world.

It was story of past racism...

You wouldnt give a republican the positive frame job you're giving this lady.

No, I think you are born once. What does that have to do with the NAACP being hypocrites and calling out the TEA Party for the racist elements within, and not having so much as a video to back up that charge? This was never about Shirley Sherrod's racism, or whether she realized the error of her ways! That was not Breitbart's point, that wasn't the story. It's what you have made the story into, and what you need the story to be about, so you can float this bullshit charge of impropriety on the part of Breitbart and Fox News.

Again, is there ANY doubt how this would have played out, if the tape was a white man speaking to a TEA Party rally, admitting racial prejudice in 1986? Would it matter that the context of his story was to tell of his redemption and contrition? Would you even acknowledge that part of the video? Or would you have even stopped screaming "RACISSST" by now?

So now there has to be video to back up every allegation made by anybody?

Mark Williams resigned his position as chief spokesman for the TPE because of his snide, biased comments on Lincoln and "colored people". This same POS called the Manhattan borough president "a Jewish Uncle Tom who would have turned rat on Anne Frank", simply because Stringer supports construction of a mosque near Ground Zero.

At least Sherrod had a story of redemption to tell. The kind of people you support, like brietbart and Williams, make no apologies for their actions and chalk up any blowback to "grandstanding".

Sorry, there is no cheering...when she begins telling her story the audience initially responds with some low murmuring, that's all.

You know why yo don't hear any booing on that tape?

Because the audience WAITED UNTIL THEY HAD ALL THE INFO and THEN formulated their varying opinions.

Only in wingnut world could this tiny, untelligible murmur be construed as cheering and agreement.

Note that Ditzie completely ignored the section of tape starting at 16:40 when Sherrod says the struggle is about poor people, not black people, and the audience agrees with her.

There is NO excuse for racism! NONE! I am sorry for the injustice regarding her father, I don't know all the details of that, and neither do you. We assume she is telling the truth, and taking her for her word on it, but even THAT doesn't excuse racism! Sorry!

And it's important to note, 26 years ago, when Ms. Sherrod was practicing racism in her job, she was a member of the NAACP! A group that is now calling out another group for having racist elements. ....People in Glass Houses....

Shirley Sherrod’s 17th year probably did more to mold her personality and set her on a path that traveled through the dangerous, volatile world of race. That year, 1965, her father was shot and killed by a white man in a dispute over cows, the family says...

...Grace Miller, Sherrod’s mother, said she remembers the night that most likely nudged her daughter into public service. Until then, Sherrod has said several times, she was determined to move out of the South and away from farming.

She changed her mind a few days after her father was killed, an event Sherrod often includes in her talks.

Sherrod’s father, Hosie Miller, had a dispute with a man over cows that had come into his pasture. The neighbor insisted that three of Miller’s cows were his. Miller said he would call the “law” to settle the dispute. As Hosie Miller was closing the gate, he was shot in the back, the family says.

Grace Miller said that the neighbor was not held accountable.

After the shooting, “Shirley would be off by herself,” Grace Miller said about her daughter, the oldest of four girls and a son."

Christiefan, how does that excuse the positive reaction in the audience to her statement of racism?

While Shirley is an impressive human, it doesn't change the inherent racism of those who thought it was just great...

What "positive reaction"?

There was no "positive reaction".

17:23 ...watch the video!

I have watched the video at least 5 times. The excerpted one Briebart initially received from the anonymous person, as well as the full version.

In each viewing, the crowd definitely laughs when Sherrod is saying (and I am paraphrasing)that what the poor white man didn't realize as he's taking his time talking to her to prove that he was superior, that she was deciding just how much she was going to help him. There was loud laughing in the audience directly after that and she goes on to tell how she steered him to "one of his own" lawyers.

There is no doubt the people in that crowd were pleased to hear that Sherrod had the farmer on the rails and to say differently is just out and out denial of the audio facts.

Now she's going to sue Briebart. Let her bring it on and the chips fall where they may. The video coverage speaks for itself and perhaps the NAACP will discover who amongst their ranks called Briebart and slipped him this version of the tape and maybe, just maybe, Shirley Sherrod can finally come up with someone to sue where she might actually get some monetary relief!

I'm with you on that! I really hope Ms. Sherrod continues to keep this whole incident front and center from now until November, because I think it says a LOT in so many ways, about the hypocrisy of the NAACP, the dishonesty of Liberals in general, and the incompetence in the White House. The ONLY people who are buying this shit about Fox News and Breitbart, are koolaid-drenched Liberals who wouldn't vote for a Republican if their lives depended on it. The rest of the country is taking note of how the LEFT is spinning and twisting in the wind, lying their asses off, and trying desperately to smear the right with this. Keep it up, Libs! Keep it up!

"Koolaid-drenched Liberals"...that's actually pretty funny considering you are one of the most narrow-minded people on these boards.

The fact that one of the few people you speak to with any civility whatsoever for more than a few token sentences also happens to be someone who is reviled by virtually the entire board speaks more about you and your moral decay than any post you could make.

Keep up the good work...oh, and btw...there is virtual SILENCE on the Sherrod tape at 17:23..why am I not surprised?
