The freedom to disrespect people... How far does that go?

So, in another thread, what I think of as an interesting conversation started when Walt posted this post. To which I responded with a question.

Where does this right end?
Aren't you taking something that someone posted out of context to justify your Trumpian views?????

We have the right to disrespect people for our own reasons, real or imagined,
but one should need a very valid reason to actually treat somebody disrespectfully.

Two different things there.

Basically, one can say what they like, but when they engage or incite physical violence they have gone too far.
No. They cannot say what they like.

Libel and slander lawsuits, or just some guy punching the lights out of what someone said in bar, or trying to incite insurrection and violent crime, or to even joke about a hijacking with TSA can land you with hefty fines, in the hospital, or land you in jail. You do not have this right.

Indeed, various States, counties, cities, and towns have quite a few regulations and laws that limit what you can say and where.

Now, let's look at the 1st amendment, which is so often misused here:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

This amendment applies ONLY to Congress (and by extension, the rest of federal government that was created by Congress).
It does not apply to States, cities, counties, towns, or individuals. It does not apply to any courtroom. It does not apply to the President of the United States or to any military unit operating under the command of the President of the United States. it does not apply to any company or corporation.

DEMOCRATS try to justify their rioting and looting as a "right" under the 1st amendment. There is a right to peaceably assemble, but NOT to riot, loot, or attack federal officers.

Now, DEMOCRATS are trying to argue that a job is a "right" under the 1st amendment (which doesn't even mention employment or job performance requirements).

Rioting and looting is not even speech.

Libel and slander is about civil lawsuits. The 1st amendment is not even involved, even if the lawsuit is filed in a federal court.

It is assault. And a criminal act.
In most cases, yes.

However, there are "mutual combat" laws. This is what allows things like boxing matches, bare knuckle fighting matches (legal in Washington and Texas), martial arts classes and tournaments, etc.

Both combatants agree to the combat. Combatants must take care not to inflict serious injury. Accidents do happen in this, and it is considered part of the risk of the sport.

Granted libel and slander apply.

Of course defamation is pretty much all the left has to offer.
