Obama Hates White People

THe same tax applies to everyone who goes to a tanning salon, black or white.

Personally I belive that they should make it illegal for anyone under 18 to go to a tanning salon and the tax should go to healthcare.

Fireworks are dangerous. Just this past weekend, one guy lost his arm, and another lost his hand.

I'm not opposed to reasonable fireworks restrictions.

I don't compare the freedom here with the freedoms in other countries in the world.

You either are to young to have the experiance to compare freedom today with freedom here 40, or 50 yrs ago, or you're very dependant on others. Probably both.

I was responding to your comment "what a free country we live in," which I assumed was kind of sarcastic. The truth is, it is a pretty free country by both historical standards, and by the standards of other countries throughout the world. I would also argue that 40-50 years ago was not a time of great liberty for women or minorities, but I know what you're getting at.

I don't think it's ever a good idea to get complacent, and freedom is not something to be taken for granted, or something we shouldn't fight for more of. But I reject attempts to characterize relatively small measures or token infringements as some sort of oppression. It does a disservice to the billions who have had to live under true oppression.

In 1913 the gov't passed the 16th amendment, saying that only very rich people would have to pay. A few decades later, we all have to pay.

In the 1930s they gave us social security, saying that this would be for widows, and orphins, and retirement. It's now for the whole world. They also said it would be voluntary. It's not. You can't work, get a loan, get married, go to school, and much more without this number.

The war on poverty has produced poverty. 1960's

Carter in the 70's gave us the Department of education, and look at what it has produced. I'll list things if you don't fully understand what this has done.

Now we have healthcare. DUDE, WE"RE SLAVES NOW!

There are so many other things to bring up. Things that have happened in the last 100 yrs, but bringing them up shouldn't be necessary. You should get it. This is not a free country. Based on what we could be enjoying, compared to what we have is criminal.

Again, I reject the notion that we're somehow slaves. I started w/ nothing, and achieved beyond my wildest dreams, and don't think I could have done that in too many other places. Beyond that, my story is hardly unique.

As for taxes, we should all pay 'em. We all enjoy the benefits of gov't, whether it's military protection, good roads or a walk in the park. What you probably object to is the degree of taxes, and on that, we probably mainly agree. I think the top tax rate should be 33%, but I think that figure is reasonable. At the moment, we are over-taxed.

Social security is a good program; the way we fund it is poor, and I support privatization, but it's a good program. It keeps a lot of older people - people who have worked their whole lives - at a bare minimum of existence, which doesn't seem like a lot to ask.

As for healthcare, the jury is by no means in. I really don't know if what passed is a good plan or bad one; but I do know that healthcare was set to bankrupt us any way you sliced it. That doesn't mean it's okay to do anything, just to say you're doing something, but the status quo was certainly unsustainable.

like i said....if we're going to follow your train of thought, then skiing should be banned.....or any other activity that is dangerous and could place you in the hospital with costs to the government....

The military and the roads are constitutional.

What I object to is the method.

Any % of my income is an assault to "The right to property." We could do it a different way.

Social Security is a scam. Many people die before they become elderly. Most people see little if anything. It has a negitive return if you calculate things such as the devaluation of the dollar against the avg total net income of Americans overall. This is to much to ask for. If you had to pay my fair share, and another and so on, would there come a point that you may say, I don't agree with this." "At ALL!"

As for the healthcare bill, Where in the constitution gives the feds the right to dictate to me such matters? Also, "Who's representing me."
