Broken Grading

The gist of the article is kids believe their grades should be based on effort, not mastery of the subject.

In this world kids think of school like a contract, “I put in the effort, now you owe me an A”.

This is how we get grade inflation. This is how you mask who may be having struggles. There’s an element of resilience that is taken away. Employers notice as well.

I go back to the fact we live in a global world and that this is occurring at our elite schools ultimately has an effect on all of us, as these are our country’s future leaders.

They'll find out the hard way that doesn't work in the real world. Just because a person tries hard isn't good enough. It's the results that count.

This reminds me of an old joke. Which ends with this:

We all know what B.S. is... an MS is "more of the same" and a PhD is just "piled higher and deeper"...
I prefer the math joke version. I can't write it out here because it's an integration.

It goes like this. f(major) as an integration of gpa. As gpa goes from 4.0 to 0 f(major) goes from STEM to Business to Liberal Arts to Fine Arts. That is, it implies that the easiest degrees to get are ones in the liberal arts and the toughest are STEM degrees in stuff like engineering and science.

...A point I regularly make when dealing with liars... err, lawyers--"Nothing but a simple liberal arts degree..."

My eldest runs a dog training business and travels the world, never went to college and still thanks me for the tools from her HS graduation. My youngest is going to graduate from College soon... the boy is gone.. :(, the middle daughter is an artist in a city with a crapton of crime...

I am proud of each and every one of them... and I miss the boy. I will probably go on a long stretch of sad songs tonight in the "what song are you listening to" thread.

Grief is hard. I never had children and can't experience losing a child, but I've trained and worked with hundreds of 20somethings. Many of whom became friends but died in a crash. I've lost over 30 before I stopped counting.

The hurt never goes away. We just live with it....until we die ourselves.

My youngest is graduating in college this year with a degree in Psychology, but is applying for both Masters and PhD programs currently. I believe if she gets into a Masters over a PhD program she will become a therapist. I do not know what she'll do with the PhD. Though in her college her psy degree is a science degree not an arts degree.

Exactly. A bachelors in Psych is good for wallpaper - not much else. To be a therapist generally requires a doctorate - at the very least a masters. Even to be a school counselor requires a masters.

Daddy was willing to spring for a baccalaureate - after that they were on their own.

And I bet they are liberals

An HR job?

You just don’t understand the real world

A Psychology degree? Doubtful.

I suppose it could be considered a generic liberal arts degree,

Says the one who has never held a job in her entire life....

Best HR Director I ever worked with had a degree in finance. At Lockheed the HR Director had a Masters in Human Resources - imagine that.
Link to your claims about me

And yes a phycology degree is perfect for working with people

You just hate people and dont think people have value

ROFL

You have no idea what HR actually does. They are not school counselors. You're one of the morons who thinks HR is there to protect employees.

WRONG, they exist to protect and further the interests of the company. 90% of the job deals with proving compliance to the myriad of federal and state laws. Almost none of it has to do with "caring for the workers."

You just hate people and dont think people have value

Lots of people have value. You don't - but most people do.

You were wrong you fucking disinformation bot hole from Russia

Anyone who reads this knows you are the one who displayed jackassery here

Type away loser

It doesn’t change how stupid you look

And you hate your own daughter so much you are working really hard here to show everyone how stupid you think she was for picking the field she loved

I’m glad you are not a real person

Eat shit you dumb fuck

Like I say, I suppose it could be viewed as a generic LA degree.

But most will lean toward;

It's okay, since you've never held a job, you wouldn't understand any of this.
