We know what Trump did the last time polls showed him seriously under water. In mid-August, 2020 he trailed Biden by a wide margin, similar to margins he had trailed by since early spring, not once closing the gap, polls regarded as being outside their "margins for error", so on the 20th of that month he made what seemed at the time an off-the-wall speech in which he claimed Biden couldn't win an honest election.
