Donald Trump appears poised to announce a two-year extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies, due to expire at the end of December, while setting new limits on who is eligible to receive the tax credits, according to reports.

Without an extension of Covid-19-era Obamacare subsidies, insurance premiums for nearly 22 million American citizens threaten to more than double early next year, a point made repeatedly by Democrats during the recent 43-day government shutdown, who refused to sign a stopgap spending bill that did not address the problem.

He can't do that without congress.

So the ACA was a terrible idea from the beginning. It needs to be dumped.

No — the President cannot unilaterally extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies or tax credits for two years without Congressional approval.

Here’s why:

⚖️ Constitutional & Legal Framework

  • Congress controls spending and taxation. The ACA subsidies are funded through federal tax credits, which are written into law. Only Congress can change, extend, or appropriate funds for them.
  • The President’s role is executive. He can direct agencies (like HHS or IRS) to administer programs within the law, but he cannot create or extend statutory benefits on his own.
  • Temporary measures are limited. During emergencies (like COVID-19), executive agencies can adjust rules or timelines under existing authority, but they cannot invent new subsidies or extend them beyond what Congress authorized.

I was looking forward to Republican candidates trying to explain in next year's elections why they caused health care premiums to double.

Trump said he had a bigger, better , cheaper , healthcare plan back when he first took office the first time . that is just about 9 years ago, only a month or two short.
Where is it?
Remember repeal and replace?
We are still waiting.
The ACA was supposed to lower premiums and you could keep your doctor. What happened? We are still waiting. :dunno:

The jolly green loser, ie Trump is doing all the smoke and mirror dance these days to appease the brain dead. First it was speaking with Mamdami, the liberal Muslim, promising him everything and anything, then it was the release of the Epstink files, with his full blessings, now its ACA appeasement time. Trump knows this BBB that's coming next fall to its full impact, is gonna seal his fate with the elections, so he's slowly laying a foundation of appeasing liberal voters, who by the way will fall for it, hook line and sinker. Cause the American Stupid is just that, stupid as fuck
