President Donald Trump hosted a Great Gatsy-themed party at Mar-A-Lago on Oct. 31, as multiple federal judges ruled the administration could not stop funding food aid amid the ongoing government shutdown.

The party was labeled "A Little Party Never Killed Nobody" according to multiple media attendees. The title was drawn from a song on the soundtrack of the 2013 movie adaptation of "The Great Gatsby."

Attendees included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Ivanka and Tiffany Trump, and their husbands, Jared Kushner and Michael Boulos, according to ABC News. Trump did not speak while reporters were present, the network reported.

Guests were seen mimicking "Roaring 20's" era attire, a period just before the Great Depression that historians note for its staggering income inequity. History.com notes that in 1928 the top 1% of families received 23.9% of all pretax income and about 60% of families made less than the income level the Bureau of Labor Statistics classified as the minimum livable income for a family of five.

The party in the midst of an extended federal government shutdown drew sharp criticism from Democrats, with California Gov. Gavin Newsom saying on social media that Trump "does not give a damn about you."

"The way he rubs his inhumanity in Americans" (sic) face never ceases to stun me," Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy said on X. "He’s illegally refusing to pay food stamp benefits… …while he throws a ridiculously over the top Gatsby party for his right wing millionaire and corporate friends."

White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly called Democrats "full of it" in a statement ABC News. "President Trump has consistently called on them to do the right thing and reopen the government, which they could do at any time," Kelly said.

SNAP benefits ordered to restart

Judges in Massachusetts and Rhode Island issued orders within minutes of each other on Oct. 31 that compelled the department to use $5.25 billion in contingency funds to continue the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly known as SNAP or food stamps.

"There is no doubt and it is beyond argument that irreparable harm will begin to occur if it hasn't already occurred in the terror it has caused some people about the availability of funding for food, for their family," U.S. District Judge John McConnell ruled in Rhode Island.

SNAP benefits for 42 million low-income Americans were set to run out Nov. 1. However, the Rhode Island State Council of Churches, the National Council of Nonprofits and several other nonprofits and mayors filed a federal lawsuit to keep the program running.

Why is it a problem that he had a halloween party? You should be checking on Democrats and why they keep voting no , if you're really worried about the snap benefits... They're to blame after all...

The food banks are lacking food or soon will be, not the volunteers, whose political affiliation you probably can pretty well guess.
They are fine here... And will be country wide....but really , we don't talk much about political affiliation when it comes to volunteers ... Everyone is usually too busy.... Do you?

Yep. The other evening on the national news they showed cars lined up for blocks hitting the food pantries in anticipation of the loss of SNAP benefits. Locally they interviewed food bank managers who all said that they were being inundated with clients cleaning the shelves bare out of fear. Our local NBC affiliate runs a "Can-a-thon" food drive every year around the holidays. They started it early this year due to the govt. shutdown.

It's strange how someone who spent the entire Biden years moaning and shedding crocodile tears for all "the suffering people starving" because of "Biden's inflation," like Toxic did, suddenly not giving a shit about actual suffering that's 100% Trump's doing.

Everyone's "fine" there yet at this time last year they were all destitute, starving, worried, sleepless, and couldn't even afford Taylor Swift tickets. Don't worry about what other people do to help, Toxic. Stop lying, spending all day here sniping, and go do all the good deeds you pretend to do when on the Internet. Scoot!

It really doesn't take long for any thread to become all about me , does it? That being said.... Everything is fine here and everything will be fine nationwide.... Lots of outpouring from businesses and individuals to help if people really need it.... And not just food.. The government will open up in the next couple days is my guess...

Our community came up with a great idea.We have little free pantries but we added something we call the FREEDGE... It's a large refrigerator and freezer inside a wooden enclosure....
Restaurants and people can drop off Leftover food... It's a take what you need and leave what you can project.... It was created before the Democrats shut down snap. But obviously it's very helpful now.... The little free pantries are for dry food.... People in the community take turns being responsible for the upkeep... Be there for your neighbors.... It's not difficult....

once the election is over it is hard to see what purpose the democrats shutdown will be about

they can't keep pretending it is about the expiring subsidies - those happen even while shut down

The delusional fantasies of a lonely shut-in desperate to be seen as compassionate and caring. Next on Fox right after the Simpsons!

Shutdowns follow Trump around. He does not care about the masses. The Dems cannot vote for opening it up, and then Trump can entrench Project 2025 and take millions off healthcare. That is not a good plan. This is Trump's shutdown and he can fix it tomorrow.
