A beginner's guide to being an atheist, by Richard Dawkins

Yeah, I really enjoy gospel music.

But really, churches in the US want followers, not thinkers.
Sounds like a cliché.

How many Christian denominations have you participated in?

I've been attending a Lutheran Church as a social experiment; the pastor said in the sermon last week that nobody has to believe that everything recorded in the canon is literally true, and we don't even have to agree with everything written in the Bible.

This Church has fellowship groups that meet to discuss quantum physics, literature, Taoist philosophy and the Tao Te Ching. You'd be hard pressed to find a more intelligent group of people if you just took a random survey of the American population.

Wrapping up, anyone who has read the gospel accounts remembers Jesus encouraged asking questions.

And if Cypress hadn't spent the past several months excoriating people for "frantic googling" like he's above it I wouldn't be pointing it out.

Google is fine. Unless you are @Cypress the smartest man in the world.

But it's clear Cy isn't able to support his position with quotes from the BIble, he has to go with AI. That's just sad, actually.

As my wife who is a cradle catholic (lapsed) says: "We wrote the BIble, we don't have to read it".
Perry PhD, you seem really stressed out and boiling with petty grievances

Why do you need everyone to be "angry"? Is it because you know you are outgunned in the debate pretty much all the time?

I am STILL laughing about you quoting Google AI in a discussion involving the Bible. I knew you were a faker but that was a gem.

Try reading the Bible. Or maybe get an audiobook version, that's probably more your speed.

Cypress only comes here to proselytize. He is pretty much a bore.

It's just demeaning the opposition. MAGAts do it all the time like most extremists. If there was a logical reason to dislike someone, then it could be discussed. I dislike MAGAts because they are anti-American, anti-Constitution and those that took the oath are traitors. If there isn't a logical reason to dislike someone, then it's all just emotional mudslinging between the extremes.

I have NO grievance with anybody who draws comfort from his/her faith,
but that changes when they become theocrats and try to force their religious values into the laws of the land.

I don't like those fire-and-brimstone churches, televangelists, self righteous Bible thumpers, or young earth creationists.

But the Intel I have been gathering leads me to believe that I even have to be careful stereotyping evangelicals. There is no talk of politics at the evangelical church here, no fire and brimstone, and perfectly sensible sermons that reflect on works of the New Testament canon.

Many people read the Bible, few comprehend it. It’s not meant to be understood. It’s meant to be revered. Reverence replaces comprehension.

The pastor reads. The congregation nods. One part therapy, one part theater, one part sales pitch.

“Faith means not wanting to know what is true," said Nietzsche.

You’ll have to quote where Jesus said to question scripture. I’ll wait.

Some question: Does God exist, Jesus--how do you know. Another question: Why should I worship your Jewish God?
The Pharisees asked Jesus tough questions, and as far as I remember he always answered them

If you want to believe Jesus was a tyrannical authority who would brook no questions, that's your choice.

He's angry at life. It's pretty easy to tell who is happy and who isn't by their posts.

Being slightly lower IQ, poorly educated with few prospects in life, I can see why people like Perry are perpetually angry.

He's too stupid to recognize that if he was honest, he'd have a better chance of finding friends.

You're welcome to your cynical view of Christianity, but I notice you couldn't give an answer as to how many different Christian denominations you have actually sat in on.

The Pharisees constantly directly questioned Jesus' interpretation of the law, and as far as I remember Jesus always answered them
