What will it cost to heat and cool that huge golden barn? How many guards will it require? What will the cleaning costs be? How much will all the chairs and tables cost? How much will all the new plates and silverware cost? How much for servers and maid services? It is a huge cost. If Trump actually gets it paid for. You do know he lies about almost everything. A couple months ago, he said it was 200 million, today 300 mill.

Trump said 2 months ago that he was not going to touch the White House with the Trump Grand ballroom and souvenir shop. He told nobody when he started the demolition of the east wing. If he said it earlier, he knew he would have faced a huge backlash. So he did it on the sly. Trump is a disgusting person.
"Fuck it, tear down the East Wing and make it bigger" were likely words out of Trumps mouth.
As well as "Tear it down before anyone has a chance to object".
This is unAmerican but I gave up on Trump many months ago.

If this is an actual rendering of the ballroom, it dwarfs the original historical structure makes the entire area ugly. He could have made it a standalone building that didn't detract from the WH.

Trump first announced the ballroom idea in June. Plans were unveiled in late July. Demolition began in mid-October on the East Wing facade, directly altering the existing structure. This includes tearing down walls and modernizing section.
The East Wing is itself an addition constructed in 1902 and significantly expanded in 194. This project doubled the wing’s footprint. The East Wing’s 1942 rebuild also stirred debate for altering the 1902 design, setting a precedent for change.
The East Wing is not part of the Executive Mansion, but is part of the White House complex, connected to the main structure via the East Colonnade.
Details were drawn from White House Historical Association archives, Library of Congress documents, and architectural histories (e.g., William Seale’s The White House: The History of an American Idea).

The East Wing is nothing but an office building that badly need expansion., both in office space , and event capacity, and the Trump expansion not only adds the much larger ballroom/event space, it will add levels to the East Wing office area. Period.
