Live updates: Trump to speak as Hamas hands over last living Israeli hostages in Gaza under peace deal

People here in southern Tel Aviv are running onto their balconies or out into the streets, clapping and cheering as large military helicopters flew very low over the Jaffa neighborhood. The helicopters were believed to be carrying released hostages.

President Trump, who is not known for Biblical references, opens by saying that after the return of the last 20 living hostages today, we “give our deepest thanks to the almighty God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.” He adds that this is “not only the end of a war, this is the end of the age of terror and death.” Using a line that other presidents have reached for — and been disappointed — he says “This is the historic dawn of a new Middle East.”
