Considerations for potential new aid
Following the 2024 election, another Trump administration is exploring a new aid package for farmers who are dealing with a renewed trade war, high input costs, and falling commodity prices.
  • Proposed bailout: Multiple outlets reported in early October 2025 that the administration is considering a bailout of at least $10 billion, with funds potentially sourced from the new tariff revenue.

  • Affected crops: As in the past, soybean farmers are expected to be among the hardest hit. They face collapsed export demand from China, which has led to depressed prices.

USDA’s latest export sales report, out Thursday morning and covering the week through September 4, marks a turning point for corn and soybeans. That’s because those commodities start a new marketing year starting September 1. Corn exports finished with record-breaking results that totaled 2.72 billion bushels. Soybean exports also ended up 13% higher year-over-year in its latest campaign.

Corn exports saw 21.2 million bushels in new crop sales, plus a carryover of 46.1 million bushels in old crop sales for a total volume of 67.3 million bushels. That was near the middle of analyst estimates, which ranged between 35.4 million and 94.5 million bushels. Mexico, Japan, unknown destinations, Colombia and Vietnam were the top five destinations.



Soybean exports gathered a total of 48.1 million bushels in combined old and new crop sales last week. Unknown destinations, Mexico, China, Taiwan and Indonesia were the top five destinations. The 2024-25 marketing year closed with 1.84 billion bushels in total sales, which was 13% higher year-over-year.
