wow....

she repeatedly got in his face and was shoving him, it was getting out of hand, he punched her, that ended her violent behavior, mission accomplished

proper use of force and its really lame to make excuses just because she is a woman, as if women can't be violent

I am NOT a badge blower. I would challenge you to find another post on this site where I actually took the side of an over zealous police officer. Some would say that I am anti police. I am not. My brother was a cop for 11 years before he went back to college. He was a patrol/bike officer with the local PD and was an investigator with the local county Sheriff's office. He was a good cop, who understood the fourth amendment and in all that time NEVER drew his weapon and had no claims of brutality or unnecessary force. I don't like warlike cops and too many now are. That being said, this guy, while in over his head, did not use unnecessary force in this matter.

and maybe some training to understand that jaywalking needs only a ticket.

Show that giving a ticket wasn't what he was going to do.
You've attempted to lie about this before and then ran like a coward when I confronted you on it.

So, show some proof that anyone was going to be arrested, for jaywalking; or just STFU in your embarassment.

I have to agree. While shocking that he punched her, it looked pretty clear to me he did so because it looked like the two could have gone after him, and quite possibly the crowd.

As far as being able to cuff her, I would imagine that having all those people around and just punching the other one in the face, caused him to not get any more rough than he already had.

When someone doesn't want to be cuffed; it's easy to do, if you want to break their arm first.
I defy any of these crybabies to cuff a woman, when she's struggling.
I will also bet that it's likely the closest they've ever come to handcuffs, is when they were being applied to themselves.

sorry, but no. Hitting her with a closed fist in the face was not justified. He was justified in arresting her. If he felt in over his head he could have awaited backup.

And while he's waiting for the backup, he stops them from leaving.........................HOW??

I would agree that if he keeps his job, he should be required to go through training again. He looked completely inept at restraining her. It is not that hard to get a simple arm bar in place to put the cuffs on.

And of course, you've done this..................................................how many times??

Had it been a man, would the punch have been justified? The short simple answer is yes. He could have legitimately pulled pepper spray and nuked her. Yes the punch was shocking, but not out of line. She was escalating and continued to fight not only the officer but the guy trying to keep her away from the cop. This is one time I think the cop was in over his head but not out of line using force.

I understand your point, but there is a difference. There may be many reasons a woman DESERVES to get hit.... but you still don't do it.

I would second the above.... Socr is hardly a badge blower.... He prefers blowing ambulance drivers so that he can get all the good cases.

I never stated she was justified in her actions. But for a man to hit a woman, regardless of the situation.... coward. You do not hit women. Period.

Actually given the situation he used restraint. He could have tazed her, used his night stick, or punched her. He was being crowded in and pushed. He could not know who else in the crowd might join in...his responsibility...and in fact what he is trained to do... is to subdue if possible those who are attacking him and or resisting arrest and to protect his person and his weapons.

There was more than 20 minutes of video where the women were being egged on by the guy shooting the video. *not that this has been shown* The women were threatening and verbally abusive. Others in the crowd were mostly doing the same. The woman being cited had assaulted a female police woman prior to this incident. The reason the cop was writing jay walking citations is because people have been hit and killed at that location before. The city spent 1.5 million to erect a pedestrian bridge over that 4 lane blvd. so that the high school kids and other pedestrians could safely cross. Locals here support the officer’s actions...

As a final note the video guy bragged how he was gonna sell his video to local media...totally fucked up!

how do you take police abuse, cowardice and being a pussy to a whole new level????

watch the video...

I think the officer used poor judgment based on what I saw. He should have NEVER attempted any sort of arrest or apprehension under those circumstances, he is very lucky someone wasn't killed. The situation was out of control for way too long, and he should have known and understood the danger of that and gone to his car to call for backup. Nothing was happening that he needed to make an arrest at that time, and I just don't see how he could have used such terrible judgment.

I don't see a police brutality issue with the punch, she jumped on him while he was trying to cuff the other woman, and his reaction was defensive in nature, I can cut him some slack there, although it is exactly that kind of thing that can cause an out of control situation to turn tragic fast.
