It's not unusual for blood to come out of an entrance wound if a vital artery is fractured, especially when soft tissue (like the neck) is hit. He was not shot from behind.

There is no blood splatter on anything behind Kirk.
Exit wounds don't always bleed, especially if the bullet doesn't expand. That's why my father taught me to track deer.
The fact it wasn't treated as a crime scene is suspect.

The entire tent area was a zoo. They dragged Charlie off to an SUV with an obvious neck wound.
Actions, not always thought out. But taking him in a SUV from the scene with a neck wound would probably be the quickest route, or meet an ambulance on the way. Any center fire cartridge would have made the wound appear fatal. Some bullet configurations, diameters and velocities would affect expansion.

I believe the neck shot was intentional. A bullet to the head or torso would make it easier to tell which direction the shot came from.
