She follows the teachings of Jesus!

I don’t think forgiveness like that fits neatly into partisan boxes. Would every Democrat really respond the same way in that situation?
No, but she did, and I honor that. He did not, and was less aggrieved. I can think of no President in my lifetime that would have said what he said.

It is a very sad indication of where we are in society.

It may feel rare, but individuals have offered that kind of forgiveness before. Faith is often the reason. What made this stand out is that it happened on such a big stage.

On a personal note, two of my liberal Christian friends posted the wife’s words on Instagram. I was surprised but heartened to see that. It gave me a sense of hope. You were starting to do that here, though the Trumpper comment made it political.

Both posts were true. Should we not call out Trump and his people when they support the opposite of something we are supporting?

Where are you when the Trumppers do worse?

Wow, a Trumpper who lives as instructed by Jesus!!!

“That young man, that young man…” Kirk said at the podium, before quoting from the Bible. “On the cross, our savior said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they not know what they do.’

After another pause, she said: “That man, that young man, I forgive him.”

I respect that.
After watching several hours of the memorial, two things seemed clear:
1. Both the MAGAts and the Evangelicals are using each other to push their separate agendas.
2. There is a growing divide between the two groups due to their widely different ideologies. Jesus is a message of love, but the MAGAts Orange Jesus spreads a message of violence and hate.

I don’t see it as hypocrisy. Not everyone responds with forgiveness, regardless of politics. In this case she chose to, and I think it’s worth honoring without making it about partisanship.

Watch it now,....that kind of non partisan level headed talk will make you a marked man around here! Bartender is finding out the same the hard way!

You're far more generous than I am. I'll wait to decide when I see what Christ-like agenda she presents going forward. I have a feeling it will be unrecognizable as His teachings, given their history thus far.
I believe she'll be as Christian as the Jesuits who took Native American children away from their families to "save their souls". Unlike Trump, her heart is in the right place even if embodied in an extreme form of Evangelism.

Instead of Native American children, Evangelicals are focused upon saving the souls of gays, trans, single people and anyone else who doesn't fit their paradigm of White Christianity.

From 1819 until the 1960s, federal policies aimed to assimilate Indigenous peoples into white American culture. Laws and policies regarding boarding schools were one of the central means toward this goal of assimilation. The federal government compelled attendance and students were prohibited from speaking their Native language or practicing their Indigenous culture. This history fuels ongoing cycles of trauma in many Tribal communities.

Many of the boarding schools were run by Catholic religious orders, including the Jesuits. The experiences of individual alumni are diverse; some have expressed gratitude for their education, but many have asserted that the schools were a place where they were robbed of their Native identity. In general, prior to the 1960s, it is clear that the boarding schools and their curricula were part of a larger goal to eradicate Indigenous cultures in favor of white American culture.

As one Trump-loving evangelical MAGA said, the teachings of the sermon on the Mount are just too wimpy to use in reality life.

Trump claims to be a Christian, and no matter who does it, it should be pointed out, especially when they are in a leadership position.
Trump is a lying POS and clearly walks in the darkness away from Christian teachings. As such, he and his followers are Satan worshipers regardless if they know it or not.

Who said that? No doubt MAGA morons agree, but I'm uncertain if a true believer would say such a thing.

This is why the lack of applause and enthusiasm for Trump advocating the death penalty for Tyler Robinson caught my attention. It was evidence that a lot more Evangelicals were walking the walk than previously thought.

There was a story in the news about Christian pastors noticing some of the MAGA in their congregation not wanting to hear about the sermon on the Mount, because it's teachings are too wimpy to fit in with their belligerent attitude about politics.

Obama sang amazing grace in a similar position.
Forgiveness and grace don’t belong to one political party, and they’re not just an American thing. We can honor someone in the moment for offering grace without turning it into a political fight or a chance to score points. Maybe that’s too idealistic, but I’d like to hope not.

That used to be true, but the Republicans who used to care a lot about this, do not generally support forgiveness and grace in a leader. They chear Trump on.

I honor her, but Trump did the opposite and I feel good about calling it out. It needs to be called out.
