This Is What Proves Trump’s Dementia: Psychologist

At least one psychologist is convinced that President Donald Trump has dementia.

Dr. John Gartner told The Daily Beast Podcast’s Joanna Coles that he has observed a “major deterioration” in Trump’s language skills, motor skills, and impulse control. The former Johns Hopkins professor and co-host of the podcast Shrinking Trump explained how he arrived at a diagnosis of dementia for the president, telling The Daily Beast that doing so involves assessing someone’s against their own baseline.

“We have to see a major deterioration in functioning in language and thinking and psychomotor performance and impulse control and a whole variety of areas... what a lot of people don’t realize is that Donald Trump used to be a very articulate person.”

“He used to speak with a high level of vocabulary in very polished paragraphs. Now what we see is not only has his vocabulary gone down, but... there are times when he’s really unable to complete a thought. Sometimes he’s unable to complete a word,” Gartner continued.

Gartner also cited Trump’s tendency to go on tangents in the middle of his own sentences, using a tangent about Hannibal Lecter as an example.

“He was lying and saying that they’re sending all these immigrants from insane asylums, right? And then he goes, ‘Silence of the Lambs. Anyone seen Silence of the Lambs?’ Well, Silence of the Lambs is a movie about insane asylums. Okay, so now we’ve moved from immigrants to has anyone seen this movie?“

“And then he goes, ‘The late great Hannibal Lecter. Nobody likes to talk about him anymore.‘ Well, first of all, he’s not dead, he’s a fictional character, so he can’t be the late Hannibal Lecter,” Gartner explained.

Gartner went on to tell The Daily Beast Podcast that he believes Trump to be a malignant narcissist, which, when combined with the deterioration in his functioning, is a “worst case scenario”.

HAS TRUMP LOST HIS MARBLES

I am a former dementia care nurse, not a physician. So I won't attempt to diagnose anyone no matter how public. That being said, however, I have noticed that Trump has at least of the early warning signs of cognitive decline: his gait. He looks okay when walking short distances (like from the wings to the podium on stage), or when he's concentrating on his gait. But when he's not, notice how he walks slumped over and with smaller, shuffling steps rather than striding. You've probably also noticed that he's now frequently shown sitting rather than walking/standing, in news clips.

It's interesting how silent the MAGATs who used to scream DEMENTIA JOE are these days, isn't it?

I’ve got a family member with dementia so I was genuinely curious about this. I looked the guy up and he’s a long time Trump critic. You’re right that psychologists aren’t physicians, and in this case he isn’t making a clinical diagnosis. He’s really just giving a partisan opinion but dressing it up in medical language.

As we know, there’s money to be made feeding partisans what they want to hear.
Exactly. I knew he was a liberal because his diagnosis is obviously wrong. Like Trump or not he obviously does not have dementia. I bet you didn't see this psychologist saying Biden had dementia prior to the Presidential debate with Trump.

We lose posture and changes to gait as a natural PHYSICAL consequence of aging, regardless of any menta changes, due to deterioration of skeletal and muscular conditions.

Well they are more qualified to diagnose it because they were trained in gerontology as part of medical school
I read there was something called the Goldwater Rule where the medical association says they discourage mental health professionals from diagnosing public figures they haven't examined personally.

It certainly is possible Trump could have it. My understanding is larger numbers of Americans suffer from dementia. But this isn't some official diagnosis.

Yes. Lots of doctors said Biden likely had dementia but unless they physically examined him it was just opinion not a real diagnosis. Just like in my OPINION Biden had dementia. I think Dr. O'Connor unethically hid the fact that Biden was suffering from dementia. I want to see what the Parkinson's specialist has to say.

I'm sure you DIAGNOSED Biden prior to the debate with Trump right? Nurses cannot make diagnosis unless they are advanced practice nurses, which you are not, and are under the direct supervision of a physician. LPN's like you should stick to changing bedpans.

What an obsessed fucking imbecile you are, grrl. Apparently you disregarded where I plainly stated that I don't diagnose. I merely reported some observations from my experience working with cognitively-impaired adults. Now waddle along and go prescribe some bleach for someone with the "stomach flu," that's a good grrl. Scoot!

I am certainly not a doctor so this may be an ignorant question. It was pretty clear Biden was aging and slowing down. But without examining him, how can one tell the difference between simple aging and actual dementia?

"Obsessed fucking imbecile" is a very good description of all JPP MAGAts.

As the link below notes, we all suffer mild cognitive impairment (MCI) as we age but that can develop into Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia.

IMO, Biden is suffering from more than MCI. Trump is similar but also coupled with his other lifelong mental issues such as NPD.

Both are good examples of never voting for Presidents over 65 and/or requiring a third party mental and physical exam every six months of POTUS with implementation of the 25th Amendment if they become too handicapped .

Narcissistic personality disorder is a mental health condition in which people have an unreasonably high sense of their own importance. They need and seek too much attention and want people to admire them. People with this disorder may lack the ability to understand or care about the feelings of others. But behind this mask of extreme confidence, they are not sure of their self-worth and are easily upset by the slightest criticism.

You can't. FatLame is a "doctor" like I am an F18 pilot. You can certainly spot a person with issues if you have had experience living with or working with dementia patients, but no one -- including actual physicians -- can diagnose from a distance without administering various mental tests.

Example: We went on a 3 week trip to Alaska in 2007 with Mr. Owl's widowed mom. I had little acquaintance with her other than family gatherings before that. On the trip, I noticed a few concerning things. She couldn't find things like her purse or paring knife in plain sight. She got lost in gift shops. She sometimes called him by one of his brother's names. She had driven to our house in St. Louis from hers in central Illinois and left her car at our house. Despite us having her follow us to the hwy that would have taken her straight home, she got lost even though she had driven that route before. She wasn't formally diagnosed though until 2011 whenn it became apparent even to the family deniers that she had (Lewy Body) dementia. She passed in 2017.

Irrelevant to Pres.Trump...

What you say makes total sense. If you’re around someone and see behavior like that, it’s pretty clear it’s more than simple aging.

But you gave the OP a thumbs up. Isn’t that psychologist basically doing the same thing as FastLane, making a diagnosis from a distance?

Yep, and he's not the first one either. There were several who claimed Trump showed signs of dementia during the first Four Long Years of Sorrow. There were others on the Right that did the same with Biden including our esteemed leader, Damo.

I wonder whatever happened to Trump's threatened/promised "investigation" of Biden's mental health "cover-up"? Think someone talked some sense into him, told him it was pretty poor optics given the man's post-presidency cancer diagnosis?

I think the difference is being a doctor, as opposed to a political commentator, carries more weight.

This is the subject:

This Is What Proves Trump’s Dementia: Psychologist

Now imagine it:

This Is What Proves Trump’s Dementia: Political Commentator

Haha. Doesn't hit the same.

That’s why I said earlier this psychologist was making a political statement, not a medical diagnosis. And the same applies no matter who’s doing it, right or left.
