* A Seattle Washington police officer is under investigation after he was caught on video punching a 17-year-old girl in the face after she interfered with his arrest of another girl for obstruction when he stopped them for jaywalking. Now, while I personally think a closed fist strike in a situation like this was excessive, it won’t be seen that way by an SPD internal investigation. However, more than that, this is more a case of unnecessary escalation over a minor violation… jaywalking. The officer should have backed off and waited for backup instead of forcing the situation like this. But, historically, Seattle police seem to have an issue with unnecessarily escalating jaywalking violations into questionable uses of force for some god-forsaken reason. (See here, here, and here)Arrest for jaywalking? are you kidding me?
* A King County Washington deputy who won an acquittal in 2008 on a brutality charge for delivering knee-strikes to a handcuffed woman’s face, despite a stinging rebuke from the judge and four fellow deputies testifying against him in that case, may be on his way out over a different case. This time he’s facing allegations that he attempted to use his badge to get out of citations for an illegal campfire. While the department couldn’t fire him for excessive force last time, the deputy has apparently agreed to resign this time on condition that his personnel file be cleared of any misconduct allegations… meaning he’ll probably show up working at another department shortly afterward anyway.wonderful. some other community will have to end up dealing with this thug
* Homewood Alabama police are accused of refusing to tell the family of a 17-year-old boy how their son died in custody after he was arrested and tasered for suspicion of burglary and allegedly resisting arrest. They are also accused of refusing to allow the family to view their son’s body and of not even telling the family that he died until after detectives questioned the family about whether their son had any underlying medical conditions they could possibly blame the death on.
* Manchester New Hampshire police who were accused of discrimination by a woman who witnessed them shoving a black man around was then dragged from her own car and allegedly assaulted by those officers when she spoke out against what she was seeing. To add injury to insult, she claims they intentionally left her unbuckled in a police van and spiked the breaks repeatedly… While the AG and police say they investigated the complaint, the woman says she hasn’t heard the results of her complaint for 14 months now.
* Newark New Jersey police officers are being accused of intentionally mishandling the investigation into a brutally fatal alcohol-related accident involving a Newark police detective who was allegedly traveling at speeds up to 75mph when he ran into a man with so much force that it severed his limbs from his body. The detective is still on the job and will not face charges since it took hours for police to finally get around to testing his blood alcohol levels which, by then, were just under the legal limit.where there's one, there's many, remember?
* A Racine Wisconsin police officer is on leave while he’s the subject of an FBI investigation for his suspected role in a bank robbery. The article goes on to discuss how several officers from the same shift have been in trouble for misconduct recently, 5 of 14 in fact.
* Decatur Georgia police officers are accused of being overly aggressive while searching a motorist and passengers during a traffic stop. While the non-consent search and pat-down turned up nothing, an officer performing a search on one of the female passengers is accused of grabbing the woman’s breast, exposing it to the estimated 100 people on the street, and then roughly twisting it around to the point where several bruises were left on her breast. Police say they are investigating, though I doubt with the same vigor that the officer used to investigate that poor woman’s breast.
* A Flagler Beach Florida Police Lieutenant is the subject of two different charges in two separate cases. The first case involves allegations that he forcibly removed a motorist from his car when he told the officer he couldn’t get out without the help of his cane, then threw him to the ground and maced him. He’s facing abuse on a disabled adult charges for that one while also facing a charge of battery for an off-duty incident where he responded to a call and peppersprayed a man he detained in his car for swearing at him.this is commonly called 'contempt of cop', which isn't a legal charge, mind you, but you'll see it alot because they 'demand' respect and instant obedience.
* Palm Springs Florida police are accused of using homophobic slurs during a sting operation targeting gay men. While a witness was largely dismissive of the use of the slur, he did say that he found the tactics used to pressure suspects into exposing themselves in order to garner sexual predator charges were surprisingly aggressive.be advised, that any police officer is exempt from committing crimes like selling drugs, soliciting sex, and conspiracy to commit crimes while they are in the official capacity of enticing citizens to commit those very same crimes. equal protection much?
* A Fresno California police officer was arrested for soliciting prostitutes on the internet when he was caught along with several other men in an internet prostitution sting operation in Tulare County California.
* Weston West Virginia police are under state investigation on allegations that they have routinely stopped people for traffic violations outside of their jurisdiction. A practice that may have endangered at least one drug case.
* A Muskego Wisconsin police officer was arrested on DUI charges with a BAC of .11 after being stopped by state police.
* A North Forest Texas police officer was arrested on an abuse of official capacity charge for unspecified misconduct related to a traffic accident.
* Louisville Kentucky has settled a lawsuit for $835,500 to the family of a man who was killed when a speeding officer on his way into work slammed into him and his friend’s disabled car while he was filling it with gas on the roadside. While never charged for the accident, he was suspended for 30 days because of it, even though it wasn’t this officers first or last accident in a police cruiser.never charged? 30 days for a death? not the first or last accident? WTF????
* The Birmingham Alabama police department is the subject of a civil-rights lawsuit filed by an anti-abortion group alleging that their rights were violated when they arrested while protesting on public property near a school.the lawsuit claims they were on the public sidewalk while the arrest report says they were on school property. coincidentally, or conveniently, the SD card that has video/pictures of the arrests was damaged upon return to the arrested individuals. So this will come down to their word against the badges. wonder who will be believed in front of a judge?
* A Tulsa Oklahoma police officer has pled guilty to a federal theft charge as part of a plea deal where he’s agreeing to cooperate in the same case against three of his fellow officers who were caught in the same sting operation.
* And finally, Clear Creek Colorado deputies are accused of arresting rescuers for rescuing 13-year-old girl from the water because they didn’t wait for the deputies to set up and get prepared to rescue her themselves in what some are saying was nothing more than a turf war because the deputies wanted credit for saving the girl.so is it a 'lawful order' to watch another person die so the badges can discuss what to do?
