Charlie Kirk, hate speech is constitutionally protected!

Cancel culture includes digging up things from the past to cancel them now over

This is more about accountability culture - making you accountable now for what you do now

I imagine that premise terrifies the left
False.

Cancel culture as the magats cried about it, also very much involved a person saying something live in an interview and any calls from the left for that person to be fired or otherwise punished.

It was never limited to just statements of the past with them saying 'oh it is ok to say those thing live'.

that is what terrifies many magats as they now are a mirror to the most extreme elements on the far left they proclaimed they hated prior.

So, when Americans were boycotting Chick a filet, that was not cancel culture?
When a corporation took aunt Jamiama off the syrup bottles, that was not cancel culture?

That is revealing the truth. Why are you against them hiding who they are from the people?

not the kind I would argue against

cancel culture that is I find ridiculous is punishing people for things in the past based on the climate of today

at every point in human history - doing things considered taboo by the majority would have you see major problems in your life. It is good that you pay for doing things so outrageous as holding up a bloody head of Trump or celebrating violence in any form. cancel that form of bullshit "culture"

Ok, but I do not think that was what Kirk was limiting it to, that is not the common definition in our current culture.

If it leads to violence don't you?
It depends on how directly it leads to violence. Generally I do not because it should not be a crime due to the First Amendment. Chanting, "kill him", in a street fight... maybe. Saying "The right are fascist", no.

But if people believe fascist are dangerous they could be compelled not action. Couldn't they?

again - people doing things considered taboo and paying socially at the time of offense is not cancel culture in my mind. this is just human response and will never change

cancel culture is combing through what they said in the past and applying current rules over what is taboo to things they did in history

I understand what you believe is cancel culture.
