Tyler Robinson was an avid gamer. Do you think some games reduce empathy? If a person plays a realist appearing game and repeatedly shoots an opponent do you think that might reduce empathy? Do you think the shooter looking through a scope and pulling a trigger can be the result of doing the same thing in a game time after time? Could a violent game lead to violent behavior?
 
Millions of people play games and never hurt anyone, so to me that’s too sweeping of a generalization. I guess it’s possible some kids get desensitized and would benefit from more time in the real world instead of always in front of a screen, but it’s a big leap to say gaming is the cause of violence.

When I was a kid I constantly had a baseball and/or glove and/or a bat in my hand after school and virtually every day during the summer.
Think about that.

I think literally billions play those games. No. I don't think they all lack empathy because of it.

If video games made a person into a murderous psychopath, there wouldn't be anyone left alive in America.

If he was happily married and had the responsibility of his own young kids, he would probably not developed his sick mindset.

Young men need a wife and family to focus their energies.

Kids grew up today with devices in their hands darn near since birth. I’m saying that is a good thing, but it’s feels to easy blame tto blame it on video games. To me it would be like blaming it on him having shot rifles growing up.

More likely he was increasingly becoming a recluse. If you note, almost all of these shooters--Left, Right, whatever, are detached from society and societal interactions.

I don’t blame gaming , just don’t think it’s particularly healthy. Like TAG said they’re socially isolated and not living in reality.
Baseball is a team sport. One for all, all for one. High fiving each other for a play well done. Solace for screwing up. Motivation to do better when letting your team down. Practicing for improvement.
To me it would be like blaming it on him having shot rifles growing up.

Look at kids that grow up learning martial arts like boxing, karate, to a lesser degree tai chi or king fu. They are taught to use it in self defense or competition, and adamantly taught NOT to be used for bullying. Sure there are exceptions.

He was supposedly a 4.0 student who 34 out of 36 on his ACT in high school. They also said he lived much of his life on the internet. That's why thinking it's video games misses the mark. You're right, kids spending that much time on the internet during their teen years generally is no bueno.

I'm not saying everyone gets desensitized but I think blowing peoples heads off repeatedly even if it is in a game can't be a healthy thing for some people.

No. They apparently liked to hunt at one time. I know tons of people that love it, almost to the point of addiction (like me and golf, lol).
I don’t blame anyone but obviously something snapped mentally with this kid and the gaming didn’t help. Probably exasperated his mental state.

True. Not everybody, but the combination of social isolation and desensitization can’t be a good thing for anyone.
