Maybe now we can see exactly what motivated his actions. It is unimaginable that his father had to drive his son to face a death penalty charge.

I think a preacher recognized the killer and went to the killer's father. The father convinced the killer the gig was up and to turn himself in. It would have been smarter for them to contact a lawyer and have him negotiated a deal to try to take the death penalty off the table.

You don't find anything suspicious about this story?

Who would be good enough to take a neck shot? It's almost as if he was showing off.
A bullet drops about 4 inches in 200 yards . He may have been aiming for Kirk's head and hit the neck area. A 200 yard shot with a scoped rifle is easy as long as the scope is zero in.

I seriously doubt such a deal could have been negotiated. Once such a telephone call was made the FBI would have found him in short order. Additionally, whoever tried to make such a deal would have been arrested for obstruction of justice.

You know that shot was taken by a professional.

These feels like the Swamps 1960's-1970's hits in many ways.....were we were lied to about who did it. Remember too that at Butler the kid was not the shooter.....he was there only to take the blame.

No. An amateur might think it was a hard shot, any military trained person would not. A bolt action 30-06 is man sized kill zone at 300 yards standard accuracy.
That shot was surgical. Charlie didn't even fall out of his chair.
