Maybe not.......this is a state that is lower percentage kids than most states, and they are primarily hispanics who dont care much for outside of the family childcare.

Why would you say NM has fewer kids? Certainly not per capita.

My wife is a Hispanic Grandma in New Mexico, and she does all that she can to help the five grand kids. But she has to work, we both do. We are barely getting by financially. We cannot afford to pay a whole bunch more in taxes to have other people care for our grand kids. We would much rather care for them ourselves.

This thing will fail badly. It will probably be staffed by people who will sexually abuse the kids. It will certainly cost huge new tax bills. The extended family works together to take care of the kids. We don't want or need this crap.

Good, don't accept the care. Not forced on you.

Starting Nov. 1, New Mexico will become the first state in the nation to offer no-cost child care to every family, regardless of income.
Universal child care represents a historic step forward in New Mexico’s ongoing efforts to bring early childhood services to as many children as possible, thereby improving their outcomes later in life, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said at a news conference Monday at the state Capitol.

My information might be wrong.....I dont have time to do more investigation right now but I just did see this:

New Mexico ranked as the state with the most underprivileged children in WalletHub's 2025 report. The study found that nearly 25 percent of New Mexico's children live below the poverty line. The state also has the largest share of children in low-income households where no adults work, and significant percentages of children living in single-parent families or with grandparents only

Keep your propaganda and indoctrination off of my grand kids, and don't ask me to pay for this sicko program.

Here's what I read:

The funding comes from the Land Grant Permanent Fund (built from oil and gas revenues)
The state created an Early Childhood Trust Fund seeded with oil and gas surpluses

So that's where the capital is coming from

The challenge:

Basically one funding source. If oil and gas prices drop the funds could drop, threatening the revenue streams
Rising costs. The more people that use it the more workers and facilities they will need
Politics. Future state Congresses' and the Governor could cut back in times of economic difficulty

As far as a "model for the nation", most states don't have the same oil money to back it.

Additionally, we know many progressives want to move away from oil and gas. Do that and the revenue stream for this program goes away.
