July 24 (Reuters) - Columbia University's agreement to pay over $220 million to the U.S. government in a settlement with President Donald Trump's administration to resolve federal probes was not capitulation but a means to restore vital federal funding, the university's acting president said on Thursday.

Cowardly and pathetic. Columbia is now Trump University.

So, your good with students forcibly taking over buildings on campus, committing violence and property destruction, and in general rioting? I suppose you think the administration of that university and public authorities shouldn't do anything to them for all that, hum?

Rioting and property destruction?

Doesn't Trump think those kind of folks should be pardoned?

I'm not the hypocritical one here.
You are the one making the argument into one of "You too," which is what a tu quoque fallacy is (aka whataboutism). What Trump did or did not do with regard to pardons has no bearing on what Columbia did or should do about protesters on their campus.

I think you are missing the ACTUAL problem here. Students always throw fits and protest stuff. It's kind of their jam. What ISN'T happening is some horrific overthrow of all laws and rules by armed roving gangs of college kids.

Trump's shakedown of universities is just a chance to express control of education. Trump is taking a page out of every dictator playbook out there. Either you completely gut the universities like Pol Pot or Mao or you control them and force them to toe a political/ideological line.

The fact that you buy, hook line and sinker, some perceived necessity for the President to step into and run the universities says you were well-selected as a Trump supporter. You come pre-loaded with all the dictator-friendly software needed in a follower. You will be easily exploited when the time comes.

And trust me, dictators NEVER stop with hassling the "bad people". Ultimately everyone gets hassled. And you will too.

This is what comes from a good solid liberal arts education: an appreciation of history. I know what is going to happen. You will be surprised.

Protests are one thing. On colleges that have large liberal arts programs and lots of radical Leftists both in the staff and student body, protests become violent with regularity. Colleges and universities shouldn't put up with that shit for a second, but they often do.

Pol Pot turned out all the academics and university students to the fields and even shot those that wore glasses because that, to him, indicated they were smart and might rebel against his dictatorship. As for Trump, he's doing to universities what they won't do for themselves. He's making them police their student body to act in a civil manner.

Universities are all about making money. They don't want to do anything that jeopardizes that. That's why they treat protesting students--and often non-students mixed in--with kid gloves. At the same time the protesters know that so they take advantage of the university knowing there will be little or no repercussions to their actions.
And trust me, dictators NEVER stop with hassling the "bad people". Ultimately everyone gets hassled. And you will too.

In the last 300 years, at least, virtually every dictator worth mentioning has risen from the political Left.

No, you don't. You obviously got the propaganda version rather than actually paying attention to real history.

I am good with all that.
